The purpose of Christ saving us is not so that we can acquire the finer things in life, be better than others, live a stress-free life, crush our enemies, drive the best, wear the finest, live in palaces, etc. Remember, satan offered Christ the finer things of life. How then can the Lord pay such a high price for our redemption only to give us what satan can give? Think about this!
God could not have saved us to offer us the same stuff the devil grants his disciples! Jesus had mercy on us and rescued us so that, first, we can be justified, and reconciled to the Father, so that He can be formed in us. Primarily, this is why we are saved.
We used to do what we pleased in our flesh when we were sinners, alienated from God. However, now that we have been redeemed, we should turn our hearts and desires to God. It is impossible for believers to turn from fleshly desires, to desire God's will, if they are constantly feeding on messages such as "You shall win today", "Your enemies shall know your name in this season", "You are always lifted", "You will win every battle", "nothing will stand in your way", "Satan will know your name", "receive financial increase", "speed is your portion!" (speed to where I wonder).
As a matter of fact, a consistent consumption of these empty utterances coupled with a few proof texts from the Bible often read out of context, produces a narcissistic individual who believes they are too important and that they deserve nothing but their best life now! Friends, this kind of diet only fattens what should be dead-the flesh. God did not call us to this. We were not saved to live our best lives right now. He saved us so we can become like Him. We are saved so that Christ can produce in us godliness, His righteousness, compassion, love, joy, meekness-everything we could never become outside of Him.
We should strive for a balanced diet regarding our spiritual life, rather than concentrating solely on certain aspects that appeal to the flesh. Focus also on other parts of God such as rebukes, corrections, warnings, and training in righteousness!
Please note, this is not to say that God cannot bless us with material things-He does always because He is an excellent Father. It becomes dangerous when His children develop an unhealthy obsession with materialism and worldliness. The priority of a believer is always to seek the Father, not things!
