ANCIENT WORDS DEVOTION
THE DESPERATE HEART
SCRIPTURE
PSALM 63:1 — O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.
DEVOTION
This is the cry of a pursuing heart. David was not driven by convenience but by desperation for God. He sought God early—not just in the morning, but first in priority. Before answers, before strength, before direction—he sought God.
Spiritual dryness does not end by activity; it ends by encounter. When God becomes our first pursuit, thirst turns into satisfaction. Seeking God early is a declaration: nothing else will take His place. Those who seek Him first will never lack what they truly need.
God is calling His people back to intentional pursuit—before the day fills up, before distractions speak, before strength runs out.
PRAYER:
O God, stir our hearts to seek You early and earnestly. Awaken our hunger and draw us into deeper pursuit of Your presence. Be our first desire, today and always. In Jesus Christ’s Name. Amen.
