HOW TO SILENCE FALSE TEACHERS

When Paul wrote to Titus about the qualifications for elders, one of the requirements for these men was that they have an ability to deal with false teachers.

“Holding fast the faithful word which is in accordance with the teaching, so that he will be able both to exhort in sound doctrine and to refute those who contradict. For there are many rebellious men, empty talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision, who must be silenced because they are upsetting whole families, teaching things they should not teach for the sake of sordid gain” (Titus 1:9-11).

Paul said these false teachers “must be silenced.” But how would this be done? No one expects the elders of a local church to kidnap a false teacher, put duct tape over his mouth, tie him up, and then lock him in a closet to prevent him from spreading his error. Since they cannot use physical force to silence false teachers, how are they to do it?

The way to silence false teachers is by taking away their audience. The way to take away their audience is by making it so that brethren will not listen to them or be persuaded by them. When this happens, the false teacher’s efforts will be futile and he will have been, for all intents and purposes, silenced. What needs to be done in order to accomplish this?

1. Make sure they are false teachers – This should go without saying, but unfortunately it needs to be said. We must not treat someone or label someone as a false teacher if they are not teaching what is false. Too often, rumors and misinformation are spread about others in order to portray them as not being sound in the faith. Even the apostle Paul had to deal with misrepresentation. He told the Romans that it was “slanderously reported” and “some claim that we say, ‘Let us do evil that good may come’” (Romans 3:8). Not only does the New Testament condemn such slander (Romans 1:30; Ephesians 4:31; Colossians 3:8), it also goes against the “golden rule” as taught by Jesus: “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you” (Matthew 7:12). We would not want others to misrepresent us in order to portray us as false teachers; therefore, we must not do that to others. If we are going to silence false teachers, we must first have some type of proof or documentation of the error they teach.

2. Help brethren clearly understand the truth – In order to understand the difference between “the spirit of truth and the spirit of error” (1 John 4:6), brethren need to know what the truth is. It does not do much good for a false teacher to be identified if one does not first understand the truth. The word of Christ is the source of our faith (Romans 10:17) and the foundation upon which our lives must be built (Matthew 7:24-25). Therefore, we must “declare…the whole counsel of God” (Acts 20:27, NKJV). We must “preach the word…in season and out of season” (2 Timothy 4:2). Elders are to “feed the flock” (1 Peter 5:2, KJV), which means they are to help them come to a proper understanding of the truth of God’s word.

3. Dismantle their arguments so that no one will follow them – By pointing out the truth, brethren can know by implication what is false. However, false teachers do not try to persuade brethren to reject the Bible in order to follow their teaching; instead, they “distort the gospel” (Galatians 1:7; cf. 2 Peter 3:16) by making arguments to convince others that the Scriptures actually support their error. In standing up for the faith, Paul said we are to “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God” (2 Corinthians 10:5, NIV). It is not enough to simply label a particular doctrine as “false,” we need to be able to show from the Scriptures why it is false.

4. Identify the false teachers so that brethren will not be unsuspecting – Paul warned the brethren in Rome that false teachers “deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting” (Romans 16:18). When certain individuals are known to be spreading error and have the potential of exerting some influence over the brethren, it is often helpful to identify them so that brethren are not caught off guard. This is why in the New Testament, certain individuals were mentioned by name (1 Timothy 1:20; 2 Timothy 2:17-18; 3 John 9-10) so the brethren would be aware of their destructive influence and not let their guard down.

5. Equip the brethren to refute the false teachers themselves – It is certainly good for elders to “be on guard…for all the flock” because of the “savage wolves [who] will come in…not sparing the flock” (Acts 20:28-29). Elders are to “refute those who contradict” in order to protect those who could have their faith upset by their error. Those who oversee the congregation have an important role in this. However, the congregation will be much safer from the effects of false teaching if the brethren can be equipped to refute the false teachers themselves. The relationship between the elders and the congregation is like that of shepherds and sheep (Acts 20:28; 1 Peter 5:1-4). Sheep need the protection of their shepherd because they are defenseless against predators. How much easier would the shepherds’ job be and how much safer the flock would be if the sheep were also able to defend themselves against attacks. This is what happens when brethren are able to refute false teachers themselves, and it is something that we should all be striving to be able to do (Colossians 2:7-8; 1 John 4:1; Revelation 2:2).

By doing these things, elders can effectively silence false teachers because they will have taken away their audience and, therefore, their ability to influence others.

However, it is also important to note that this is not just for elders. All Christians need to grow in their knowledge and understanding of the word of God so that they can also “exhort in sound doctrine and…refute those who contradict” (Titus 1:9). If false teachers are elders, they must still be silenced (Acts 20:30; 1 Timothy 5:19-20). If there are no elders in a local church, false teachers are not to have free course (2 John 10-11). Therefore, all of us need to learn how to silence false teachers so as to limit or eliminate the influence they could have upon those around us.

MAKE THINGS RIGHT.

Today's Scripture:
Then Esau ran to meet him and embraced him, threw his arms around his neck, and kissed him. And they both wept. (Genesis 33:4, NLT)

Today's Word:
When Jacob was a young man, he tricked his father and stole Esau's birthright, after he deceived his father into giving him the first-born blessings that should have gone to Esau. When Esau found out he was very angry that Jacob had to flee for his LIFE. Jacob ran away from a problem he had created, a relationship he severely damaged, and lived for twenty years in exile hiding from his immediate family. When Jacob finally decided to go back home, it meant facing Esau whom he had cheated out of his birth right.

You always have to go back and deal with what you ran away from at one time.

You can imagine Jacob’s apprehension of Esau’s anger and revenge, but Esau met him, embraced and kissed him, and they both wept. When you stop running and start praying, when you deal with things that you have always pushed down, when you get to be honest with yourself and make things right, the grace of God will go before you. God will soften people’s hearts and you will enjoy forgiveness.

You can then find that loved you have not spoken to and make peace. Don’t extend the wait, go on your knees in prayers. God will make your crooked places straight.

A Prayer for Today:
“Father God, thank You that You restore broken relationships and soften people’s hearts that have been offended. Thank You that I can stop running away or staying away from people with whom I need to make peace. I believe that You are going before me with Your grace and straightening my crooked places. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Have a Restored Friday and a blessed new week.

KENYA'S DEEP POLITICAL SCIENCE GAMES!

Since ODM is not officially part of this broad based government, we can only explore the end game from Ruto's UDA side. And revelations today that senior Gachagua aides are on the radar of the intelligence services over involvement in the recent Gen Z riots, provide for a perfect backdrop for this discussion. If confirmed to be true, it would paint the very disturbing picture of a sitting Deputy President who attempted to overthrow his own boss from within! In fact, with this in mind, those investigating the attempt to overrun the constitution must now also include the death of General Ogola as a related matter. The coincidences are no longer just casual issues.

Anyway, back to the fallout in government, the emerging picture is that Ruto's Mount Kenya partner attempted to grab power from him by the back door. And there is already a pattern which was once played. In 1978, Moi took power and bent over backwards to show former Kikuyu power barons and brokers, political networks and money men that he would give them everything they wanted. They dominated every sector in Moi's original government; financial, national security and the executive. But Moi realised the only thing they wanted was the presidency back. The only thing that stopped them was the Kamba and later Kalenjin military machines which kept him in power. That was the only thing the Kikuyu Mafia had forgotten to domesticate.

Then Kibaki took power in 2002 and the entire Mountain went quiet in contentment. They had no issues and no complaints. In fact, with Anglo Leasing scandal and tribal appointments, they replicated exactly what they had been accusing Moi of for 24 years. Then in 2012, ahead of the 2013 elections, the country was engaged in an intriguing conversation of how Uhuru could line up to succeed Kibaki, a fellow tribesman, in a country of such many ethnic communities. But the Mountain roared back that no one could be locked out of the presidency by a biological accident. That Uhuru had much right as anyone. Again, after Uhuru's swearing in, silence reigned from the Central Kenya region, until the twilight of his reign, when their biggest problem was that Kenyatta II wanted power to go to "njaruos" which to them was a mistake. They opted for Ruto, merely as a stop gap to avoid Raila sitting on the throne, but believing that they could find a way to take power back. After all, Uhuru had already set it up nicely by leaving behind a Kikuyu-heavy security and financial sectors.

Just like it was with the early Moi days, the mountain wanted back the presidency as soon as Ruto was sworn in.

Having survived June 25th, Ruto has discovered that no matter what you do, it will never be enough for Central Kenya. He gave them everything possible, short of the presidency, but they wanted more. And this posed an unsustainable national security challenge. You can't have two shareholders hoarding jobs at the expense of all others, without the nation collapsing on you like a house of cards. And so there was only one way to look; the West of Kenya. By welcoming Luos to government, Ruto has not only picked the smartest as usual, but has deliberately given them the toughest postings, obviously a statement that his government has reached the abyss from where only expert Luo hands can retrieve them. But he is also playing "realpolitik". He worked closely with the community in 2007 and knows that their loyalty to a course and their reliable voting block represents the only alternative to the Mountain that he is about to shove off power gently before 2027.

Ruto's running mate in 2027 will be a Luo or Luhya. And he will dump the mountain once and for all. You can't say he didn't try. But when he dumps them, it will take a real long time before power returns there. And this fact is not diluted by the theory that the Gen Z are tribeless. Politics isn't rocket science.

And that is the end game in site!

WHETHER YOU ARE MARRIED OR NOT, READ THIS AND LEARN.

"Dad, can you loan me Five Hundred Thousand Shillings?" Ochola asked his father.

"What for son?", his father asked back.

"For my wedding. By our calculations, we're falling short meeting the cost".

Ochola had come to meet his parents with his fiancé.

"Your wedding? How much is the total cost of the wedding?", his father asked.

"Kshs.3.6 million. We're thinking of starting the committee next week. We can together give about eight hundred thousand and expect our friends to help us raise about two million. I remember you told me if ever I need help I can come to you" Ochola answered.

His father held him by the shoulder and said
"Go get your wife and come meet me at my study room".
"Yes dad", Ochola obliged.
Minutes later, Ochola and his fiancé,Tomilayo walked into his father's study room.
"Having a good time my daughter?" Ochola's
father asked.
"Yes I am. You and your wife are so hospitable. I pray that Kola and I can emulate your marriage. You are an admirable couple" answered Ochola's fiance.
"Thank you. I am delighted to have you as my daughter. This is your home, you're welcome anytime", said father.
They sat down.
"Thank you dad"
"So, I hear you want to spend Kshs.3.6 million for your wedding and you need me to help with five hundred thousand?", asked father.
"Yes, we will greatly appreciate" said the fiancé.
"The wedding will be at the Total Garden Ibadan in about six months time", said Kola.
"Why do you want to have a big wedding?",
father asked.

"Well, it's our big day. She's always dreamt of a big wedding", Ochola replied.
"Have you dreamt of a big wedding or a strong marriage?", The father asked the fiancé.
"When you put it that way, it's more of a strong marriage" said the fiancé.
"Good. You've answered wisely. So who do you expect to come for your wedding?", asked the father.
"Friends and relatives. About seven hundred people", answered Kola.

"How many true friends do you really have?",
I mean friends who have been tried and tested to be there for you through thick and thin?, asked the father.
Ochola and Tomilayo looked at each other.
"Countable", the fiancé answered.
"So who are these other people who will come to your wedding?", asked the father.
Silence.
"OK. Let's go to the relatives. I know you love your relatives, but how many are really close to you? You barely talk with the many relatives you have", said the father.

"What are you trying to say dad?" asked Ochola.
"My son, my daughter; why do you want to spend Kshs.3.6 million on a wedding, a one day event yet you need the money in your marriage? Look, you are actually coming to ask me for money, you will form a committee to ask people for money; all to show off and please people who will not even matter in your marriage"
Silence.

The father continued, "Let me share with you my experience. When I married your mother, we spent about a million for the wedding. That was a lot of money then. We fed people, got stressed by service providers, just so that we put up a wedding that will win the applause of a crowd. But as soon as we got married, the crowd disappeared. All the issues that your mother and I went through, no one cared, even family couldn't do much. Every one is busy living their life. When things got tough, the crowd gossiped about us, some even seemed happy that our marriage was in trouble" Silence.

"I have seen this script repeated over and over. Brides get stressed on their wedding day, they can't even enjoy, couples being angry at friends who don't support them financially, the worst part is starting marriage in debt or struggling financially. Do you know a wedding doesn't have to cost so much, it doesn't have to be stressful, it doesn't have to be full of people who perhaps will never talk to you again?" added the father.
"But dad, what will people think if we do a small wedding or we don't invite them?"asked the fiancé.
"Are you getting married for people? If you have a small wedding with only the witnesses who matter, will you two not be married? What is all this competition of who has a grand wedding for?

People are competing on Facebook, in weddings; why this need to show off? You know that money you are about to blow in one day, you can use it to invest in your marriage, you can start the process of buying or building a home, you can save up for the needs of the children you will have because you need money to raise a family. Why not start your marriage financially healthy and not in debt?
Marriage is what is more important than a wedding", continued the father.
"Dad, if you don't want to support us it's okay", said Kola. The fiancé stopped him saying, "No my love, dad has a point. I actually find the idea of a small wedding not just wise and economical, but also intimate. Marriage is just you and me, not people".

The father spoke, "My son, in all the years you have been a man, you have never come to me asking for money, but now you are asking for money to put up a show? I look further, I look at your marriage. I admire how people come together in a wedding committee to raise money and I wonder, what if couples and people use that same energy to put up a business that will uplift families. Those members who will be part of your wedding committee, imagine if they become your investors, imagine if you build a company where you can make profit and feed your homes. Something sustainable."
Ochola and his fiancé nodded.
"My son, I have longed for the day you would come and ask me to invest in your business idea. But today I will make the first move", the father said taking his cheque book from his drawer. He wrote on the cheque then gave it to the fiancé.

"Here my son, this is a cheque of five million
naira, not for your wedding but as start up
capital for a business of your choice. I am
giving the cheque to your wife because as
the Proverbs 31 woman said, she is to walk
with you in building an empire for your
family. Focus on your family, give your family
the best; forget about the public and
opinions of people who don't matter. Build
a future for your family. Build your family on
a foundation of surplus not debt".
"Thank you so much" said the fiancé.
Ochola stood up with tears in his eyes. His father stood up too. The father and son hugged.

"Thank you dad for being a great figure and your counsel. I don't know what to say. You have challenged me not to merely get
married but to have a vision, a vision for my family. I don't know what to say" he spoke.
The father held his shoulder, "You will make a great husband and father. I wish I had the same counsel when I was getting married,
all those people I fed on my wedding day didn't add value to my marriage. In fact, if I was to organize an event and feed multitudes, I would do so for the less
fortunate and those in need.

Marriage is not for show!!

Oh well . Hopefully along with the coin he got from the hole, he also got the lesson which is even more valuable. And that’s the point! Don’t focus on the abuse by the rich, instead LEARN TO EARN from them to protect yourself and even become MORE richer yourself in the future ….

The rich have always walked on or over the back of poor since the dawn of time. Nothing new!

New International Version, Mathew 6:30-end
30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Praise God brethren and all my friends on Facebook. I'm thankful to the heavenly Father for all of you and always pray that you may always grow more and more in his knowledge especially during these challenging times when men have become lovers of themselves than the lovers of God. People nowadays care less about the standards of God as long as they are content in themselves and their ideas.
Today God has pushed me to talk about giving according to the standard of God. Giving is one area the enemy has really really invested a lot in because of it's diversity. Despite countless warnings from the bible not to add or subtract anything from the word of God, corrupt men in pursuit of filthy lucre have corrupted the very biblical principle of giving misleading many a flock. This decadence has made many not to give or even stop going to church altogether. There was giving according to the law and there is the current giving according to the dispensation of grace. The law came as a schoolmaster where we were first taught about giving as little children. It was just a foundation but as we grew more in the knowledge of our God and are moved from one level to another in our engagement with God our understanding of everything concerning God must advance. There are many demonic dogmas advanced by peddlers of deception especially in the area of tithing. Dear brothers and sisters everything you do without faith is sin. If you give out of fear, compulsion or according to the law, you are disqualified from grace. We who are in Christ and are led by the holy spirit are beneficiaries of grace and we understand that we are not but just stewards and everything we have belongs to God and therefore we don't need to be pushed to give because giving is automatically wired in us. We know whatever God has entrusted to us must be selflessly dispatched as the spirit directs us bearing in mind that we should position ourselves for advancement into higher levels of stewardship. When the bible tells us to work our salvation with fear and trembling, it's an all round exhortation to dig deeper and deeper in the knowledge of our Lord that we may all move from good, the acceptable until we attain the perfect level of his will for us in every area of our engagement with God. If we give sparingly,we don't expect a bountiful harvest. As we grow from one level to another in other areas of our walk with God,we must also grow in our giving hoping to move from giving as just an act of worship but must desire to move up the ladder of stewardship until we become God's trustees in the advancement of his kingdom. If we give generously, God gives more opportunities to be generous givers which automatically translates to more materials in order to be more generous. May God open our spiritual eyes to see the deeper meaning of this light until it fully jells in our hearts to perfect understanding brethren. Meditate deeply for more revelation and then share this post generously for more people to see the light of giving. Everything that is not of faith is sin to the children of God who are always led by the spirit of truth in everything they do. I love you all by the love of Christ.

In my few and many years on this earth, and especially after these past few days, I have learned that we will all go just like General Francis Omondi Ogolla's last sermon, when it’s our time no matter the struggle. No one can stop it. The material things we invest in are left behind. Memories therefore, are important to me. And so, I'm going to start a "reunion of friends". The idea is to see who reads a post without a picture. If no one reads my post, this will be a very short experiment. But if you are reading this message, make a comment using a single line about how we met and where. After that copy this message on your wall and I will also leave you a word. Please, don't leave a word and then not bother doing the second part it will defeat the purpose of the experiment. Let’s go and let God!! And kindly follow instructions.... I appreciate the "likes" but the one line counts more in this matter!

AFTER RETIREMENT
When the game is over, both the king and the pawn return to the same box.
This is a must read for all retirees. The truth is that all used and none functional light bulbs are the same.
A Senior Executive retired and shifted from his palatial official quarters to the housing society, where he owned a flat. He considered himself big and never talked to anyone. Even while walking in the community park every evening, he ignored others, looking at them with contempt.
One day, it somehow transpired that an elderly person sitting beside him started a conversation, and they continued to meet. Every conversation was mostly a monologue with the retired Executive harping on his pet topic, “Nobody can imagine the big post and high position I held before retirement. I came to this community due to compulsions”; and so on, and the other elderly person used to listen to him quietly. After many days, when the retired Executive was inquisitive about others, the elderly listener opened his mouth and said,
“After retirement, we are all like used and finished light BULBS. It does not matter what the bulb’s wattage was, how much light or glitter it gave. I have been living in this community for the last 5 years and have not told anyone that: I was a Member of the Parliament for two terms. On your right, over there is:- A Man who retired as General Manager in Corporation.
Over there is Another Man who was a Major General in the Army. That Man sitting on the bench in spotless white dress is: PROFESSOR, who was a former lecturer in a University before retirement. He hasn’t revealed it to anyone, not even to me, but I know."
All used dysfunctional light bulbs are now the same – whatever its wattage was – 10, 40, 60, 100 watts – it doesn’t matter now. Neither does it matter what type of bulb it was before it got finished – LED, CFL, Halogen, Incandescent, fluorescent, or decorative.
And that, my friend, applies to you too. The day you understand this, you will find peace and tranquillity even in this housing society. Remember, the rising sun as well as the setting sun are both beautiful and adorable. But, in reality, the rising sun gets more importance and adoration, and is even worshipped, whereas the setting sun is not given the same reverence. It is better to understand this sooner than later.
Dear friend, your current designation, title and power are not permanent. Keeping a lot of emotions with these things only complicates your life when you lose them one day. Remember that when the game is over, the king and the pawn go back in the same box.
Therefore, enjoy your achievements today/all that you have acquired today. Have a fabulous time ahead.
Be at peace with yourself. At the end of the day all those certificates are nothing but just al pieces of paper that will be replaced by only one certificate... Death Certificate.
Retirees, please keep in touch and support each other. Where possible, put a smile on someone's face. Be your brother and your sister's keeper.
God bless you.

When Einstein gave lectures at U.S. universities, the question students asked him most was: Do you believe in God? And he always answered: I believe in the God of Spinoza.

Baruch de Spinoza was a Dutch philosopher considered one of the great rationalists of 17th century philosophy, along with Descartes.

According to Spinoza, God would say: “Stop praying. I want you to go out into the world and enjoy your life. I want you to sing, have fun and enjoy everything I've made for you.

“Stop going into those dark, cold temples that you built yourself and saying they are my house. My house is in the mountains, in the woods, rivers, lakes, beaches. That's where I live and there I express my love for you.

“Stop blaming me for your miserable life; I never told you there was anything wrong with you or that you were a sinner, or that your sexuality was a bad thing. S*x is a gift I have given you and with which you can express your love, your ecstasy, your joy. So don't blame me for everything that others made you believe.

“Stop reading alleged sacred scriptures that have nothing to do with me. If you can't read me in a sunrise, in a landscape, in the look of your friends, in your son's eyes—you will find me in no book!

“Stop asking me, ‘Will you tell me how to do my job?’ Stop being so scared of me. I do not judge you or criticize you, nor get angry or bothered. I am pure love.

“Stop asking for forgiveness, there's nothing to forgive. If I made you, I filled you with passions, limitations, pleasures, feelings, needs, inconsistencies, and best of all, free will. Why would I blame you if you respond to something I put in you? How could I punish you for being the way you are, if I'm the one who made you? Do you think I could create a place to burn all my children who behave badly for the rest of eternity? What kind of god would do that?

“Respect your peers, and don't give what you don't want for yourself. All I ask is that you pay attention in your life—alertness is your guide.

“My beloved, this life is not a test, not a step on the way, not a rehearsal, not a prelude to paradise. This life is the only thing here and now—and it is all you need.

“I have set you absolutely free, no prizes or punishments, no sins or virtues, no one carries a marker, no one keeps a record.
You are absolutely free to create in your life. It’s you who creates heaven or hell.

“Live as if there is nothing beyond this life, as if this is your only chance to enjoy, to love, to exist. Then you will have enjoyed the opportunity I gave you. And if there is an afterlife, rest assured that I won't ask if you behaved right or wrong, I'll ask, ‘Did you like it? Did you have fun? What did you enjoy the most? What did you learn?’

“Stop believing in me; believing is assuming, guessing, imagining. I don't want you to believe in me, I want you to believe in you. I want you to feel me in you when you kiss your beloved, when you tuck in your little girl, when you caress your dog, when you bathe in the sea.

“Stop praising me. What kind of egomaniac God do you think I am? I'm bored with being praised. I'm tired of being thanked. Feeling grateful? Prove it by taking care of yourself, your health, your relationships, the world. Express your joy! That's the way to praise me.

“Stop complicating things and repeating as a parrot what you've been taught about me. Why do you need more miracles? So many explanations?

“The only thing for sure is that you are here, that you are alive, that this world is full of wonders including you!.” Copied and shared!
