From training to planting, a new farming group in Lomekwi is taking its first steps towards more resilient livelihoods. 🌱

This week, World Relief Kenya supported members of the newly formed group through training on farming activities suited to the dryland environment.
The training was followed by practical action. Members began planting crops and putting their new knowledge into practice.
They also received a practical demonstration on Zaipit technology, an innovative approach supporting agriculture in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs).

The group is now waiting for germination and growth. While it is still early days, the journey from learning to action is an important step towards improved food production and stronger, more resilient livelihoods.

In Turkana, a bad season can mean an empty plate. One farmer decided that wasn't good enough for his community.

Many households in the region have traditionally relied on livestock alone, leaving little room for a backup when times get hard. Simon Naleit saw that risk in his own community and set out to change it.
Through World Relief's training in poultry keeping and improved agricultural practices, including Black Soldier Fly technology and food preservation, Simon gained new skills. He didn't stop there. He began teaching his neighbours too.

The impact has been significant: Katongun now has 7 new farms, and Kangiputhia has a large shared community farm, with more than 1,000 households now reported as food secure.
"World Relief, through me, has motivated a lot of families to embrace both poultry farming and agriculture," Simon shares.

World Relief Kenya is proud to walk alongside local champions like Simon, investing in the people who are already leading change in their own communities.

Know a community champion like Simon? Tag them below.

100 Church Representatives. One important conversation. 🙌🏾

World Relief Kenya, together with the Department of Refugee Services (DRS), brought together Church Representatives from Kakuma Town, Kalobeyei and UHRC A & B to discuss the Shirika Plan, a Government of Kenya framework supporting greater inclusion, self-reliance and sustainable solutions for refugees and host communities.

These leaders aren't just listening, they're preparing to take accurate information to the pulpit, creating spaces for awareness, questions and dialogue within their congregations. 🤝🏾

Because when trusted community leaders are informed, communities have more opportunities to understand and meaningfully engage with the Plan.

Bringing TB services closer to the community. 🩺

In Nataparkakono, Turkana Central, World Relief Kenya, in partnership with the Ministry of Health, took TB services closer to the community, creating an opportunity for people to learn about TB, get screened, access advanced diagnostic technology and receive referrals for care.
The outreach reached 118 people, identified 14 presumptive TB cases and confirmed 1 case that was enrolled on treatment.
Bringing services closer means making early detection and timely treatment more accessible to communities that may face barriers to accessing health facilities.

Together, we can end TB in Turkana County.

Every diagnosis made early is an opportunity to save a life.

At Kalokol Market in Turkana Central, World Relief partnered with the Ministry of Health to bring tuberculosis (TB) screening directly into the community, ensuring people at greatest risk could access services without travelling long distances.
Through the dedication of Community Health Promoters and Community Health Assistants, the outreach combined health education with digital chest X-ray screening, sample collection and referrals for treatment.

The impact speaks for itself:

✔️ 85 people screened
✔️ 35 presumptive TB cases identified
✔️ 5 bacteriologically confirmed cases immediately linked to treatment

Community-based healthcare is helping detect TB earlier, reduce transmission and give vulnerable families a healthier future.

Together, we can end TB in Turkana.

👥 Every stronger community begins with empowered local health workers.

On 22 July 2026, World Relief Kenya in partnership with the County Government of Turkana and the Ministry of Health, celebrated the achievements of 26 Community Health Promoters (CHPs) from two Community Units in Turkana Central who successfully completed a 10-day Community Health Strategy training.

Throughout the training, they gained practical skills in:
🩺 Community health promotion
📖 Health education
🛡️ Disease prevention
📊 Community health data collection and reporting

As they return to their communities, these dedicated CHPs are ready to promote healthy behaviours, connect households to essential health services, and strengthen community health systems where they're needed most.

👏 Congratulations to all the graduates! Your commitment is helping build healthier, stronger and more resilient communities across Turkana.
