CONEMI Children’s Home was conceived as an idea and implemented by Bishop and Mrs. Having been a convict that had served several jail terms before finally giving his life to Jesus, Bishop Josiah had the desire to make a difference in society in whatever small ways he could. At first, the community around him was skeptical, but as time went the grace of God kept him going. Located in what was then
a slowly developing residential estate- Githurai in north eastern Nairobi, the home provides hope to tens of children every year, as it receives children that have been abandoned, orphans (including those orphaned due to HIV/ AIDS) and those from extremely destitute families who would otherwise not survive in their environments. Among other things that the home offers include the basic needs that is homely (parental) love, food, shelter and clothing. Other fundamentals also made available include education for those that are of age at Compassionate Academy. Spiritual growth is also prioritized, as the home is rooted in deep biblical teachings, and guided by Christian principles. The home owes its existence to the continued support from well wishers and partners ever since it was founded, with the likes of Trans World Radio International, Tuskys Supermarkets, Naivas Supermarkets, Eastmatt Supermarkets the government of Kenya playing an integral part in ensuring its sustenance. This list of course is not exhaustive, as there are many other organizations and individuals that have supported the home in a variety of ways and continue to do so. However, tougher economic times have had a negative bearing on the home’s welfare as less people find it possible to continue to support us. Over the years, the number of partners and supporters has drastically fallen, leaving the home struggling to raise such essentials as food. Today, a little under 100 children have gone through his care, but his passion and love for children still remains as green as it was when he set out more than three decades a go. Currently, there are 26 children aged between 18months and 10 years. The youngest child to get admitted to the home was barely two days old (a beautiful girl who is now six years old), while the oldest was aged 10.
