On August 13, 2026, Caritas Nairobi joined members of Mikari Coffee Cooperative Society, project partners, county representatives and other stakeholders in Komothai, Kiambu County, to celebrate the official launch of Mikari Coffee, a brand that embodies the resilience, dedication and collective spirit of local coffee farmers.

The launch, held at the Mikari Coffee factory, marked a significant milestone in the farmers’ journey under the Caffè Corretto – Right Coffee Project, as they continue transforming their locally grown Arabica coffee into a proudly Kenyan brand that reflects the quality, identity and aspirations of Mikari farmers.

The vibrant event featured a coffee-tasting session, showcasing the rich aroma and exceptional quality of Mikari Coffee; an exhibition of value-added coffee products; and a photo exhibition tour tracing the journey of coffee from farm to cup.

The launch was not only about a new coffee brand, but also about celebrating the farmers whose hard work, resilience and determination continue to add value to Kenyan coffee and strengthen sustainable livelihoods.

Your generosity, time, commitment, and spirit of presence and active liturgical participation have contributed immensely to this important mission of nurturing and empowering our young men. Through your support, we continue to build resilience, character, responsibility, and a strong sense of purpose among the boys, inspiring them to grow in the true image of Christ.

𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐍𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐲𝐚 𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐃𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐫𝐜𝐡𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐩𝐨𝐨𝐥

Caritas Nairobi and Caritas Kenya hosted a delegation from the Archdiocese of Liverpool, United Kingdom, comprising clergy and lay representatives who are visiting Kenya to learn about selected development and humanitarian projects implemented by diocesan Caritas organisations across the country in partnership with CAFOD, the overseas aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales and a member of Caritas Internationalis.

The visit provided an opportunity for the delegation to engage with Caritas Nairobi and gain a deeper understanding of its programmes and development interventions, as well as the organisation’s contribution to improving the lives of vulnerable and marginalized communities.

The delegation was briefed on Caritas Nairobi’s work across its four key programme areas, which support communities in Nairobi and Kiambu Counties, as well as the broader national mandate of Caritas Kenya under the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB).

The delegation was received by Sr. Maureen Nakhungu, Deputy Director, Caritas Nairobi, and was accompanied by Catherine Ogolla, CAFOD Country Representative for Kenya and Uganda, and Samuel Omondi, National Director, Caritas Kenya, KCCB.

𝐎𝐯𝐞𝐫 4,500 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐠 𝐌𝐞𝐧 𝐆𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 3𝐫𝐝 𝐀𝐧𝐧𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐁𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐁𝐨𝐲𝐬’ 𝐌𝐚𝐬𝐬

More than 4,500 young boys and approximately 400 mentors gathered at St. Mary’s Msongari Grounds for the 3rd Annual Beacon Boys’ Mass, held under the theme “Building Character, Inspiring Excellence.”

The day began with an inspiring talk ahead of the Holy Mass, which was presided over by Rt. Rev. David Kamau, Auxiliary Bishop of the Archdiocese of Nairobi . In his message, Bishop Kamau challenged the boys to recognize their potential, grow in confidence and remain committed to their faith and values. He encouraged them to seek continual growth in faith and favour before God, reminding them that character, discipline and a strong relationship with God are essential foundations for becoming responsible and purposeful young men.

The Mass was concelebrated by Rev. Fr. Peter Kiarie, Executive Director, Caritas Nairobi, who opened the day’s programme; Rev. Fr. Bernard Ndichu Mwaura, Pastoral Coordinator, Archdiocese of Nairobi; Rev. Fr. Kelvin Okeyo, Director, Radio Maria Kenya–Nairobi; and Rev. Fr. Henry Omwoyo, CSSp, Parish Priest, St.Austin’s Parish, Msongari.

Following the Mass, the young men took part in a range of sporting and recreational activities, including football, athletics and other games. The activities created a lively and Christ-centred environment where the Beacon Boys could interact, build friendships, have fun and strengthen their sense of community under the guidance and mentorship of their ‘mentors’ , members of the Catholic Men’s Association (CMA).

The Beacon Boys Programme is an initiative of Caritas Nairobi under the Gender and Youth Programme in partnership with the CMA, designed to accompany and support young men as they navigate the formative stages of their lives. Through mentorship, life-skills training, faith formation and character development, the programme seeks to equip boys with the confidence, values and practical skills needed to grow into responsible, resilient and principled young men.
