MDO Update: Impact Report (Jan-March 2026) ๐Ÿ“ˆโœจ

At the Sisters of the Good Shepherd-Eastern Central Africa Province (ECAP), we are excited to share the remarkable progress our programs have made since January. From launching transformative projects to restoring dignity in vulnerable communities, your partnership continues to create meaningful impact across the region.

Here is a glimpse of what we achieved together between January and March 2026:

๐Ÿ—๏ธ Infrastructure for Impact
On February 20th, we celebrated a major milestone with the groundbreaking of the EVTI Project in Ngong. This center will be a game-changer for youth empowerment, providing vocational training that equips young people with skills to build sustainable livelihoods.
Meanwhile, in Kitale, construction of the Maria Droste Health Centre is progressing steadily, bringing essential maternal and preventive healthcare closer to the Kispongo community.

๐ŸŒฑ Climate Resilience & Sustainability
Our teams in Komarock are implementing climate-smart agriculture initiatives and water pan installations. These efforts are helping families strengthen food security while adapting to the challenges of a changing climate.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Protecting the Vulnerable
* Kolwezi, DRC: Through Bon Pasteur ASBL, we continue supporting the withdrawal of children from artisanal mines and their reintegration into school, while reaching over 10,000 community members with child protection awareness.
* Likoni, Mombasa: The Sauti Ya Dada Club has already supported 100 teenage mothers this year with mental wellness support and parenting skills, helping them return to education with renewed confidence.

๐Ÿ  Restoring Dignity
One of the most moving moments this quarter was completing a safe new home for Mrs. Susan Mukui in Komarock. Seeing her move from a dilapidated shelter into a secure home reminds us why we do this work affirming the dignity and worth of every person.

๐Ÿค Healing & Peace
Our reconciliation programs in Mikinduri and surrounding areas continue to provide trauma counseling and peacebuilding dialogues, helping communities rebuild trust, healing, and resilience.

As we reflect on this yearโ€™s International Womenโ€™s Day theme, โ€œGive to Gain,โ€ we are reminded that every contribution to ECAP is an investment in a stronger, more dignified future for all.

๐Ÿ™ Thank you to our donors, partners, and the Sisters for making this journey possible.

๐ŸŒฟ Proposed Maria Droste Health Centre โ€“ Kispongo, Kitale ๐ŸŒฟ

Access to quality healthcare remains a challenge for many families in Kispongo, Kitale. In response to this need, the Sisters of the Good Shepherd are proposing the establishment of the Maria Droste Health Centre, a facility that will bring essential medical services closer to the community, especially to vulnerable families, women, and children.

This health centre will help save lives by improving access to basic healthcare, maternal services, and preventive care for those who currently travel long distances to seek treatment.

๐Ÿ’š You can be part of this! Support, share, and help us make hope and health a reality for the community.

๐Ÿ™ Together, we can build a healthier future.

If you would like to support or learn more about this initiative, please reach out or follow our updates.

๐ŸŒ International Womenโ€™s Day 2026
Theme: โ€œGive to Gainโ€

Today, we join the global community in celebrating 115 years of International Womenโ€™s Day, a moment to honor the strength, resilience, and achievements of women everywhere.

At ECAP, we believe that when women are empowered, communities flourish. Across our programs, child development and mentorship, womenโ€™s economic empowerment, health services, mental health support, and environmental initiatives, we witness every day how investing in women and girls transforms families and builds stronger societies.

The theme โ€œGive to Gainโ€ reminds us that when we give women access to education, opportunities, leadership, and dignity, the whole world benefits. Stronger families, healthier communities, and sustainable development begin with empowered women.

Today, we celebrate the incredible women who lead, nurture, innovate, and inspire change in our communities. We also reaffirm our commitment to continue supporting women and girls so they can reach their full potential and shape a more just and hopeful future.

๐Ÿ’œ Happy International Womenโ€™s Day 2026!

Civilians โ€” especially girls, women, and children โ€” are paying the highest price. The rapid intensification of military actions is putting countless lives at immediate risk and deepening an already fragile humanitarian situation.

Amid this crisis, our sisters and partners in ๐‹๐ž๐›๐š๐ง๐จ๐ง are once again responding to a massive wave of people displaced by this conflict. Families are arriving at shelters with absolutely nothing and urgently need food, basic medical supplies, and safe housing. They are exhausted, afraid, and weary from reliving the trauma of past conflicts.

As Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, we advocate for a just and non-violent resolution to this crisis. We urgently call on global leaders to establish ceasefire safe zones, protect civilians, and step back from the brink of wider conflict by choosing diplomacy over retaliation.

Our global Good Shepherd community invites you to join us in prayer for the safety of all those affected and for a swift resolution that creates lasting peace in the region. ๐Ÿ•Š

๐ŸŒ๐Ÿ’ง Training on Water Pan Installation-Komarock
We are excited to share highlights from our recent training on water pan installation in Komarock. This practical session brought together community members who are committed to strengthening local water resilience and sustainable resource management.
The training focused on:
โœ… Site selection and preparation
โœ… Excavation and lining techniques
โœ… Water harvesting and storage management
โœ… Maintenance and sustainability practices
Water pans play a critical role in rainwater harvesting, especially in areas experiencing irregular rainfall and water scarcity. By equipping the community with hands-on skills, we are promoting climate resilience, environmental conservation, and improved access to water for households and small-scale livelihoods.
Together, we are building solutions that are community-led, sustainable, and impactful.

๐ŸŒ Children Not Miners -Kolwezi, DRC

Over 40,000 children in Kolwezi are working in artisanal cobalt and copper mines instead of going to school. Many face dangerous conditions, exploitation, and abuse.

Since 2013, Bon Pasteur ASBL, founded by the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, has been working to:
โœ… Withdraw 1,200+ children from mines and reintegrate them into school
โœ… Support 500+ women with income-generating opportunities
โœ… Reach 10,000+ community members through awareness programs

Kolwezi may produce cobalt for the world, but children and families still suffer. Bon Pasteur is breaking the cycle of poverty and violence through education, livelihoods, and child protection.

๐Ÿค Supported by Misean Cara, ERG, GIZ, Mercedes-Benz, Google, Missio Austria, Porticus, and the EU, we continue building hope and dignity.

Children belong in classrooms, not in mines. Letโ€™s make this a reality.
