Hope, dignity, and transformation are taking root in Butembo, North Kivu, DRC ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฉ

CMS-Africa has successfully concluded a four-day Women Empowerment Programme (WeP) training that brought together 50 women from six archdeaconries within the Diocese of Butembo/North Kivu. Through practical training in financial literacy, bookkeeping, business management, self-identity, and financial stewardship, these women have been equipped not only with skills for economic empowerment, but also with renewed confidence to shape the future of their families and communities.

Already, two saving groups have been formed, with four more expected in the coming months, a powerful sign that sustainable change is beginning to flourish. Facilitated by Asha Peruzi, assisted by Jeff Sikabwe, the training reflects CMS-Africaโ€™s continued commitment to empowering rural African women to rise above poverty, unlock their potential, and become catalysts of transformation in their communities.

When women are empowered, communities are strengthened, and hope is restored.

We were delighted to host David Rolland from CMS Britain, one of our valued partners, during his visit to the CMS Africa Headquarters this week.

David will be based in Zanzibar, serving in the HUB of Wenzetu within an Islamic context, where his work will primarily focus on training clergy. His visit provided a wonderful opportunity to connect, share, and acquaint himself with the CMS Africa team.

We look forward to the impact of this partnership and pray for grace and fruitfulness as he begins this important assignment.

CMS-Africa has today kicked off a four-day Islamic Worldview Capacity Building at Mbagala Spiritual Center, Dar es Salaam. The training brings together 37 church leaders and teachers from Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar, alongside our programmes team.
Over the next four days, participants will be equipped with practical knowledge and approaches to engage thoughtfully, respectfully, and effectively with people of different faith backgrounds.
We pray this time will foster meaningful dialogue, deepen relationships, and strengthen the Churchโ€™s witness at the Edges.

Today, CMS-Africa had the joy of hosting Church Mission Society (CMS) Mission Director, Paul Tester during his visit to .

He had the opportunity to spend time in Informal Settlements, where he engaged with both our programme alumni and current beneficiaries. It was a powerful moment of connection, hearing firsthand stories of transformation emerging from the community.

These interactions are a reminder that discipleship and holistic mission continue to bear fruit, even in the most challenging contexts.

CMS-Africaโ€™s Local Partner, Samuel Malish, in partnership with ACROSS, has capacity-built 96 childcare workers on trauma healing in Bidibidi Zone 3 and Ofua Zone 6 of the Bidibidi Refugee Settlement and Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement in Northern Uganda, respectively.

The four-day training aimed to help childcare workers serving in communities where children have experienced deep loss, displacement, and ongoing stress to be well-equipped to understand and respond to trauma in a structured way.

The participants explored the framework of walking with wounded children, reflecting on the pain children carry and how God responds to it, while also learning to recognize trauma symptoms and their impact, including PTSD.

The childcare workers are expected to reach more than 300 children, offering them a safe space to process their experiences and begin to heal.

Bidibidi Refugee Settlement and Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement host hundreds of thousands of refugees, mainly from South Sudan and the DR Congo, many of them women and children. Children in these settlements often carry deep emotional and psychological wounds, and trauma healing is vital to help them process their experiences, restore hope, and support their healthy growth even in these challenging environments.

โ€œI thought I had nothing to save - but even the little I had changed my life.โ€

Kavira Mwanandeki Marie Jose, a mother of six and an internally displaced person in Oicha, Eastern DR Congo, found hope after undergoing a women empowerment training by CMS-Africa, and joining one of the savings groups started by the mission agency. By saving just 1,000 Congolese Francs a week, she accessed a small loan that helped her start rearing guinea pigs - providing food for her children and income for her household.

This is the power of small beginnings. We give glory to God for transformed lives.
