What happens when children are given a voice? 💙

66 children from across Turkana County came together in Lodwar for the Kenya Children Assembly and what they created was powerful.
They didn’t just attend…
✨ They spoke
✨ They led
✨ They inspired

Under the theme: “Ensuring Universal Access to Water, Sanitation and Hygiene for Every Child in Africa,” these young leaders shared their stories, challenged real issues, and boldly called for change, especially in communities facing WASH challenges.

And they didn’t stop there…
They campaigned, presented manifestos, and took on leadership roles from Governor to Speaker to Sergeant-at-Arms proving that leadership starts now, not later.

We are proud that AIC Health Ministries, with support from ERIKS Development partner, facilitated 3 amazing children to participate:
👏 One was elected Sergeant-at-Arms
🎤 One graced the stage with a powerful shahiri performance before the deputy governor.

This is more than an event. This is a movement of young voices rising.

AIC Health Ministries is looking for a passionate and qualified Field Officer to support HIV interventions aimed at reducing HIV incidence and improving Sexual & Reproductive Health (SRH) outcomes among AGYW, vulnerable populations, and people living with HIV.

• Bachelor’s Degree/Diploma in Public Health, Social Sciences, Nursing, Clinical Medicine, or related field
• Minimum 3 years’ experience in HIV program implementation
• Strong communication & teamwork skills

Today, we pause to reflect on the sacrifice, love, and hope that Good Friday represents.

"But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed." Isaiah 53:5

🌦️ What happens when indigenous knowledge meets science?
The results might surprise you.

AIC Health Ministries and Malteser International teams in Turkana and Nairobi recently facilitated a Participatory Scenario Planning (PSP) session in Mana-anarwae, Kakuma Ward.

Community seers (using traditional methods) and experts from the Kenya Meteorological Department compared seasonal forecasts for the March–April–May (MAM) rains and their predictions aligned by an incredible 99.9%!

🌧️ Key Forecast Highlights:
✓ Rainfall expected to be normal
✓ Onset: March–April
✓ End: 4th week of May
✓ Likely riverine and flash floods, though uneven distribution
✓ Pasture availability: Plenty

🔍 Insights from both knowledge systems:
• Indigenous knowledge (Seers): Cross-border livestock migration from Uganda into Kenya is expected
• Scientific forecast: Internal migration within the county is anticipated

Additional insights from Lodwar station indicated potential localized conflicts in Lorengkipi, Musug, and Nakitongo.

💡 The PSP approach helps communities:
• Access and interpret climate information
• Co-create locally relevant advisories
• Strengthen climate resilience and decision-making

The session brought together:
Kakuma Ward Climate Change Committees, Seers, and local media including Ata Nayece, REFFM, and Vocalized Africa.

When science and community knowledge come together, better decisions follow.
