Sermon by Deacon Nicholas Oduor
Theme: Rooted and Built Up in Christ.
Topic: The Danger of Being Lukewarm
“Because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I will spit you out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:16)
The Frog Principle
A frog placed in slowly heating water does not react until it’s too late.
- The frog represents us when we stop responding spiritually
- The water represents the environment we live in
- The heat represents the boundaries we need to have
- The boiling point represents spiritual collapse
Many times, we don’t fall suddenly—we drift slowly.
“A little leaven leavens the whole lump.” (Galatians 5:9)
“Pay careful attention… so that we do not drift away.” (Hebrews 2:1)
“Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season.” (2 Timothy 4:2)
Stay spiritually alert knowing that there is an adversary looking for our downfall.
“Be sober, be vigilant…” (1 Peter 5:8)
“Watch and pray, so that you will not fall into temptation.” (Matthew 26:41)
We need to make an inventory in our lives by being vigilant.
How true is it today that our spirit is saved, but the flesh is not. Do not see others fall into temptation and feel that you cannot. There are those who feel more saved than others, but the Word of God reminds us that you can fall.
It does not matter how many years you have been in salvation; what matters is how alert you are in your salvation.
Pray all the time. In the spiritual realm, prayer is very important. You can pray anywhere—on the bus, at work, at home. We must maintain our prayer life because prayer is work.
If you do not admit that the flesh is weak, then you are not being truthful before God.
Let us not normalize sin in our lives.
Stay rooted. Stay alert. Stay grounded in Christ.
