We continued the official visit of the IYCS Secretary General to Africa with a meaningful and impactful stop in South Sudan.
The delegation received a grand welcome, highlighted by a reception ceremony graced by the Vice President for Economic Cluster: James Wani Igga, himself a former YCS member of the movement in South Sudan. He also facilitated a powerful training session on youth empowerment, inspiring young people to take active roles in leadership and service.
During the visit, engagements were held with key Church leaders, including the Secretary General of the Sudan and South Sudan Episcopal Conference, a former YCS member, Rev. Fr. Martin Ochaya who reaffirmed the Conferenceโs commitment to supporting the growth of the movement. The delegation also met with the President of the Catholic Bishopsโ Conference, Cardinal Stephen Ameyu Martin Mulla who is also the Metropolitan Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Juba, who encouraged the team and pledged continued support from the Church.
The visit provided an opportunity to connect directly with students through school visits, fostering dialogue, exchange of ideas, and strengthening the presence of YCS among young people, including planting of trees. A courtesy visit was also made to Radio Maria South Sudan, where discussions focused on the impact and future growth of the movement in the country.
In a moment of reflection and tribute, the delegation visited the graveside of a dedicated YCSer, Francis Abraham Gajuk, who lost his life during the unrest, honoring his faith, courage, and commitment to the movement.
The visit concluded with a closing ceremony presided over by the Secretary to the Episcopal Conference, marking the end of a fruitful and inspiring mission in South Sudan. We remain very grateful to the dynamic Chaplaincy Team of the YCS South Sudan and the Alumni Association.
