The FWCC - Africa Section in partnership with American Friends Service Committee came into partnership during the month of June 2020 for the purpose of sensitizing the communities and truck drivers along the Kanduyi – Malaba road towards the Kenya – Uganda road.
This is was purposely to address the stigmatization that was labelled against the truck drivers as being the carriers of COVID 19 virus hence they were being denied essential services such as food, accommodation.
The exercise took place on 22nd June 2020 and more than one thousand masks were distributed with wordings “Kwa Amani, Jitunze Mwenyewe” which means in Peace, take care of yourself.
Together with the distribution of masks, the team distributed bar soaps, sanitizers and thermoguns to the nearby health facilities.
This activity brought together all other Quaker organizations such as Friends Church in Kenya, United Meeting Africa Ministries and Evangelical Friends Church in Africa. Elgon Religious Society of Friends, Lugulu yearly meeting leadership was also part of the team. Along the road, the reception by both the community and the government officials was awesome and it encouraged us to demonstrate the faith in action exercise.''
