2. Gideon Mang'oka.

The Kenya Evangelical Lutheran Church (KELC) is founded on Jesus Christ; professes that the Word of God as written in the Old and New Testaments is the only source of life and teaching; professes the Apostles' creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed; and regards the unaltered Augsburg Confessions and the Small Catechism of Martin Luther as true explanations of the Word of God. MISSION: G

uided by the Word of God, this church has a mandatory obligation of preaching to all people the good news of salvation that is obtained in Jesus Christ so that they may have life and have it to the fullest. To offer Christian service to its members in which the Word of God and the Sacraments will be offered
3. To urge its members to participate in Christian communion among believers
4. To serve all people in the name of Jesus Christ both bodily and spiritually. HISTORY
KELC was registered as an independent church body in Kenya on 20 February 1992. However, Lutheran mission work in Eastern Kenya can be traced back to 1948, and later formal work was established through the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania. The Kenya Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tanzania (ELCT–Kenya Synod) was officially registered in Kenya on 3 July 1968. LEADERSHIP
The current Bishop is Rev. Zachariah Kahuthu and the Assistant Bishop is Rev. Additional leadership of the church is accomplished through the offices of the General Secretary Luke Mwololo and the Departments of Youth (Jonathan Kapanga), Women (Alice Mwaringa), Christian Education (Johannes Loeffler), Diakonia (Cordula Elisabeth Kunze), and Communications (Elizabeth Hendrickson). The church is divided into four districts (Central, Kilimanjaro, Southern Coast, and Northern Coast) each headed by a district pastor. Each district is divided into parishes, and the parishes are then divided into congregations and mission areas. The church comprises 141 congregations and mission areas with a total active membership of approximately 7,300 men, women, and children. PROJECTS
