Are you blessed? If you say yes, remember that you are blessed to be a blessing. We can learn from Abram who readily made the move to bless his nephew, Lot, unconditionally.
LOT WAS TAKEN
Lot was already residing in the wicked city of S***m when the fierce armies of the East routed the Southern alliance and carted away all the people and goods of S***m and Gomorrah, including Lot and all his possessions. If you were Abram, you might have shrug at Lot’s predicament as consequential to his choice.
ABRAHAM WORSHIPED GOD
(Genesis 13:14, 17–18)
After Lot separated from Abram, he built an altar to the Lord, an expression of worship when God reassured him of His promise to give him the sprawling land of Canaan in all directions.
Worship helps make us secure in the Lord as we remember His promises and blessings. Remembering we don’t deserve His grace keeps us humble and willing to bless others as we have been blessed.
ABRAHAM MADE THE MOVE
(Genesis 14:14–16)
When Abram heard what happened to his nephew, he and his army traveled over 200 miles one-way to bring back Lot from his captors.
When we want to be a blessing to others, we go out our way, out of our comfort zone. We bless others intentionally even if we are tired, broke, afraid or hurt. We freely bless even those who hurt us. We bless even when they do not deserve it, for we know we are undeserving.
Some ways we can make our move to bless others: seek out and forgive those who’ve hurt us; seek out and restore a fellow believer caught in sin; seek out people who don’t know Jesus to evangelize and disciple them.
THE HEART OF ABRAHAM
(Genesis 14:18–24)
When Abram returned, he was met by Melchizedeck, a king and priest, a type of Christ. He blessed Abram and the God the Most High.
Abram gave Melchizedek a tenth of all the b***y with a heart of gratitude to God, not as an obligation for there was no Mosaic Law of tithing yet then. When we are secure in God’s promises and satisfied in His blessings, we will be able to bless others for God’s glory. Blessed people bless people.
