Parklands Baptist Church began in 1967 around the Globe Cinema with 45 members. Some of the missionaries who had started the work in the country in 1956 had wanted to reach out among the asian community in the Parklands area of the city of Nairobi. The initial efforts were not very promising and so it was decided to start an english speaking congregation among the residents of Parklands.
In 1968, PBC moved to its first location on the junction of Ojijo Road and Chiromo Lane near the Parklands Sports Club. It was situated on a small acreage and did well for more than 20 years. God blessed and grew His church each and every week from 45, to 150, to more than 800 members and exponentially to a level where extensions to accommodate more people could no longer be made. For the first ten years it was pastored mostly by missionaries but after that, nationals were engaged into leadership.
Because of the enlargement of the ministry it was important that the church relocates and by God’s grace land was allocated to us in Westlands. On a ten acre plot a new 3,500 sitter sanctuary was constructed from 1993 – 2000. In January 2000 we relocated from Ojijo Road to Rhapta/Sports road in Westlands. The sanctuary was dedicated that same year on 16th Apri 2000. We did not start a new church as such and so we retained our name Parklands Baptist Church.
In the past ten years and more, God has moved in unbelievable and incredible ways. He has really blessed us and we have grown to more than 6000 attendants. Part time leaders have been raised, missions locally and internationally have been accomplished, men and women have been spiritually mentored and batpized, buildings have been constructed, churches have been planted, a branch on Mombasa Road started in 2010, and God has been glorified! And the amazing truth is our God is just getting started!
