🔷 WHY FREEMASONS NEVER ASK YOU TO JOIN 🔷

One of the most common questions people ask is:

❝Why don't Freemasons invite people to become members?❞

The answer is simple: Freemasonry is built on the principle of free will.

A Freemason may tell you about the fraternity, its values, its charitable work, and the positive impact it has had on his life. He may answer your questions and encourage you to learn more. But he will never ask you to join.

Why?

Because membership must come from a sincere desire within the individual. Freemasonry seeks men who are motivated by genuine curiosity, a commitment to self-improvement, and a desire to serve humanity—not by persuasion, pressure, or personal gain.

For centuries, candidates have been expected to take the first step themselves. By asking to join, a man demonstrates initiative, independence, and a sincere interest in the principles of Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth.

Freemasons do not recruit.
Freemasons do not pressure.
Freemasons do not solicit.

Instead, they simply say:

✨ "If you are interested, ask."

Because in Freemasonry, the journey begins with your own free choice.

"You must ask. That's the rule."

SHOULD I PAY TO JOIN FREEMASONRY?

Yes. Becoming a Freemason involves certain financial commitments and responsibilities that help support the Lodge and its charitable, administrative, educational, and operational activities.

Initiation Fee

The Initiation Fee is a one-time payment required before a candidate receives the Degree of Entered Apprentice. This fee contributes towards the costs associated with:

Conferral of the three Craft Degrees
Administrative processing and membership registration
Educational materials and resources
Lodge records and documentation
Other expenses incurred in preparing and admitting a new member

The amount of the Initiation Fee varies depending on the Lodge and the jurisdiction under which it operates.

Annual Dues

In addition to the Initiation Fee, every Freemason is required to pay Annual Dues to maintain membership in good standing.

These dues help meet the ongoing operational expenses of the Lodge, including:

Maintenance of Lodge premises and facilities
Administrative and communication costs
Charitable and community outreach programmes
Educational and member development activities
Support for District and Grand Lodge functions

Annual Dues vary from one Lodge to another and are determined according to local circumstances and the requirements of the governing Masonic authority.

A Commitment to the Craft

Freemasonry is not a commercial organisation, nor does it seek to profit from its members. The fees and dues collected are used solely to support the work, traditions, charitable endeavours, and continued operation of the Fraternity.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to enquire directly with their preferred Lodge regarding current fees, membership obligations, and payment arrangements.
