Madaraka Day 2026 | Pamoja, Imara, na Mustakabali Bora

As we celebrate the gift of self-governance and the sacrifices that birthed our freedom, may Madaraka Day remind us that the strength of Kenya lies not in our differences, but in our shared destiny. The liberties we enjoy today were secured through courage, sacrifice, and an unwavering belief in a better tomorrow.

Let us therefore rise above division, embrace unity, and commit ourselves to building a nation founded on justice, integrity, peace, and mutual respect. Every generation has a responsibility to protect the freedoms inherited and to create opportunities for those yet to come.

May the spirit of Madaraka inspire us to serve our nation faithfully, steward our resources responsibly, and uphold the values that make Kenya strong. Together, we can shape a future where every citizen thrives, every voice matters, and every dream has a chance to flourish.

"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord."— Psalm 33:12

🇰🇪 MADARAKA DAY 2026🇰🇪

Today, we celebrate a defining moment in our nation's history—a day when Kenya took charge of her destiny and began the journey towards self-governance, dignity, and nationhood.

As we commemorate Madaraka Day under the theme "Education, Skills and Future," we are reminded that the freedom won by our forefathers was not an end in itself, but a sacred trust handed down to every generation. It is our responsibility to transform that freedom into opportunity, innovation, prosperity and service to humanity.

The future of Kenya will not be built by chance. It will be built in our classrooms, our institutions, our churches, our communities, and through the hands and minds of a skilled, disciplined and visionary people. Every learner nurtured, every skill acquired, every talent developed, and every dream inspired strengthens the foundation of our beloved nation.

As a people, let us rise above division and embrace the values that define us: hard work, integrity, unity, patriotism and faith in God. Let us invest in our youth, empower our communities, and build a Kenya where every citizen has the opportunity to flourish and contribute to national development.

May God bless our educators, our workers, our innovators, our leaders and our young people. May He grant us wisdom to steward our freedom responsibly and courage to shape a future worthy of the sacrifices made for our nation.

"Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance."— Proverbs 1:5

As Kenya marks Madaraka Day 2026, we celebrate not only our political freedom but also our collective responsibility to shape a brighter future for generations to come.

This year's theme, "Education, Skills and Future," reminds us that true nation-building is anchored in empowering our people with knowledge, competence, innovation and godly values. The future of Kenya will not be determined by our resources alone, but by the quality of minds we nurture and the character we instill in our young people.

As Methodist Church in Kenya, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting education, mentoring leaders, nurturing talents and building communities where every individual can thrive and contribute meaningfully to our nation's progress.

May this Madaraka Day inspire us to invest in learning, embrace excellence, and work together towards a united, peaceful and prosperous Kenya.

"Let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance." — Proverbs 1:5

CONDOLENCES ON TRAGID DEATH OF LEARNERS AT UTUMISHI GIRLS ACADEMY

PRESS RELEASE

The National Council of Churches of Kenya (NCCK) is deeply saddened as we pass this message of condolence to all parents and families of the 16 young students who passed away in the dormitory fire at Utumishi Girls Academy earlier today. We assure you of our prayers that God will comfort and console you as you go through this painful and difficult period full of questions and emptiness. We are also praying for all those who were injured, physically and emotionally, for quick and complete healing and recovery.

The tragic death of these young learners is heartbreaking reminder that neglect of stipulated standards by government officials has very expensive consequences. The failure to enforce school safety standards and architectural requirements to ensure disaster and emergency readiness often results in devastating loss of human lives. For how long will the same speeches and promises and commitments be made after learners perish in fires without follow-through actions?

We remind all the officials neglecting their duty of the warning God has given in Psalm 7: 15 – 16

He wo digs a hole and scoops it out falls into the pit he has made. The trouble he causes recoils on himself, his violence comes down on his own head.

The pain you cause to families will come back on you.

On their part, we implore the investigative organs to undertake thorough investigations to ensure that all individuals who contributed to the tragedy at Utumishi Girls Academy through their commissions or omissions face the requisite legal consequences. This must not be another anecdote in our history, rather, it must be a turning point when the nation says enough is enough and takes action to protect learners in school environments.

Signed on this 28th day of May 2026 at Jumuia Place, Nairobi.

Rev Canon Chris Kinyanjui
General Secretary
