What does it really mean to praise the Lord?

It goes far beyond singing a hymn. Praising also means recognizing His hand in our lives, giving thanks for His blessings, trusting in Him, and choosing to follow His teachings each day.

The final Psalms are an invitation to look towards God with a heart full of gratitude and adoration. As we study them, we can remember who He is and all He has done for us, and find new reasons to strengthen our faith.

Starting September 6, young women and young men around the world will begin using the new For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices as the foundation for their Sunday classes and quorum meetings.
The guide contains 12 chapters—one for each month—centered on eternal truths, gospel principles, and real-life application.
And this isn’t just something youth will read.
They’ll study it together.
Talk about it together.
Apply it together.
And grow closer to Jesus Christ together.
The For the Strength of Youth guide will also provide the supporting material for the weekly Sunday lessons.
So if you’re a youth, parent, or leader:
Be ready.
A new chapter begins September 6.
And at the center of it all is Jesus Christ.
He is the strength of youth.

August 24–30: “I Will Declare What He Hath Done for My Soul,” Psalms 49–51; 61–66; 69–72; 77–78; 85–86
Psalm 49 gives a powerful message to everyone both rich and poor, high and low: wealth, status, wisdom, and human achievement cannot redeem us from sin and death. No person can pay a ransom to God for another person’s soul. Even the richest person eventually dies and leaves everything behind.
The contrast comes in Psalm 49:15: “But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave.” This points us to the truth that redemption ultimately comes from God, through Jesus Christ. What money cannot purchase, Christ provides through His Atonement and Resurrection.
Psalm 62:5–12 adds that our hope, salvation, strength, and refuge are found in God alone. We should not put our hearts in riches, people, power, or possessions. Instead, we are invited to trust God, pour out our hearts to Him, and remember that power belongeth unto God and that mercy belongs to Him.
These psalms remind us that I should never allow temporary things to become the foundation of my life. Wealth can disappear, possessions remain behind, and human praise does not last. But Jesus Christ offers something the world cannot give: redemption, forgiveness, resurrection, and eternal life.
Because We believe that God will redeem our soul from the power of the grave, We can face the future with faith rather than fear. Our testimony of Jesus Christ helps us focus less on what we possess and more on whom we trust. Christ is our Rock, our salvation, our refuge, and our hope.

"The book of Psalms reassures us that for one who trusts in the Lord, ‘he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper’ (Psalm 1:3). …We can trust the Lord because we know the ending to our stories. … The ending of our stories can be glorious — eternal life in the presence of our Heavenly Father. Because we know the ending, we need not be overly anxious or stressed, even though the journey is suspenseful at times.”

Sometimes God makes us wait because He is preparing us for what we prayed for. God’s timing is not a rejection, it is preparation

Job lost much of what mattered to him. He grieved and struggled to understand why these things were happening. Yet in the middle of his uncertainty, he held on to what he knew: “Yet will I trust in him” (Job 13:15), for he knows that our Redeemer liveth.

We may have questions too. We may not understand why a prayer seems unanswered or why a difficult season lasts longer than we hoped. Job reminds us that we can have questions and still have faith.

August 3–9: “Thou Art Come … for Such a Time as This”

Many events in the book of Esther might seem like luck or coincidence.
How else do you explain how an orphaned Jewish girl became the queen of Persia at just the right time to save her people from slaughter?
What are the chances that Esther’s cousin Mordecai would happen to overhear a plot to assassinate the king?
Were these coincidences, or were they part of a divine plan?
Elder Ronald A. Rasband noted: “What may appear to be a random chance is, in fact, overseen by a loving Father in Heaven. … The Lord is in the small details of our lives” (“By Divine Design,” Ensign or Liahona, Nov. 2017, 56).
We might not always recognize the Lord’s influence in these “small details.”
But we learn from Esther’s experience that He can guide our path and prepare us “for such a time” (Esther 4:14) when we can be instruments in His hands to fulfill His purposes.
