DIOCESAN SOCIAL COMMUNITY WELFARE COMMITTEE BREAKFAST MEETING

The Diocesan Bishop, The Rt. Rev'd Jonathan Kabiru, today held a breakfast meeting with the Diocesan Social Community Welfare (DSCW) Committee at the Diocesan Offices.

The DSCW Committee operates under Strategic Results Pillar Two of the Diocesan Strategic Plan, which focuses on the Welfare and Well-being of the Clergy and Laity, under the leadership of the *Rev'd James G. Mwangi, Dean/Vicar, ACK St. Simon Kiamumbi*

Anchored on the 2026 Diocesan Theme, “Going Back to the Basics” (Acts 2:42–47), the Bishop appreciated the Committee for its commitment and continued support towards strengthening the welfare and well-being of clergy, laity, and the wider community.

The Bishop encouraged the Committee to embrace a Church without walls, taking the Gospel beyond the confines of the Church through acts of mercy, compassion, and practical service to those in need.

He further challenged the team to strengthen partnerships with hospitals, prisons, schools, public institutions, and other community facilities, creating opportunities for the Church to offer support, restore dignity, and bring hope to vulnerable members of society.

The meeting reaffirmed the Diocese’s commitment to translating the Gospel into tangible acts of love, mercy, and service, ensuring that the Church remains a source of hope and transformation within the community.

As noted, “Capacity gaps have been addressed through strategic investment in people and a commitment to corporate social responsibility.”

Through such strategic partnerships and deliberate investment in people, the Diocese continues to strengthen its capacity to serve, empower communities, and faithfully live out its call to go back to the basics.

St. Martin's Church, Light Industries
Welcoming the Rt. Rev. Bishop Jonathan Kabiru yesterday, St. Martin's Light Industries was filled with joy as the congregation turned out in full to receive their Bishop Jonathan Kabiru.

Presiding over the confirmation service, the Bishop confirmed 42 candidates — teenagers and adults, many of them already serving faithfully within the church.

Reminding the congregation of the diocesan theme, "Back to the Basics" from Acts 2:42–47, he walked them through the four pillars the early believers held to: the apostles' teaching, fellowship, the breaking of bread, and prayer. Holding to these, he said, is how the Lord adds to our number daily.

Turning to each candidate in turn, he asked where they felt called to serve. The answers came fast — ushering, choir, instruments, praise and worship, children's ministry, evangelism — and he charged the department leaders to welcome them in properly.

Closing with an altar call, the service saw a good number step forward to give their lives to Christ, and the Bishop instructed that they be discipled and integrated into the work of the church.

Congratulations to the 42 newly confirmed, and to all who began the journey of faith yesterday.

Today, the Bishop Jonathan Kabiru has witnessed the official handing over to the newly elected Nairobi Diocese Clergy Welfare Committee during a retreat bringing together both the incoming and outgoing teams.

This follows a successful Clergy Welfare AGM and marks the beginning of a new chapter of service, collaboration, and commitment to the welfare of our clergy.

We thank the outgoing committee for their dedicated service and congratulate the incoming team as they take up this important responsibility. May God grant them wisdom, unity, and strength as they serve
