.. That I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death ...

Philippians 3:10

When do you really know the Lord? When you realize He’s alive. When do you really understand He’s alive? When you go through tough times — the fellowship of suffering. When I’m cruising along on 'Easy Street,' I don’t know Jesus the way I often discover Him when I’m going through difficulties or problems, heartache or setbacks, tragedy or pain.

Here in Philippians, this book of rejoicing, Paul says, ‘Don’t despise the difficulty, the tragedy, the tough time, the setback, the heartaches — for those are the times you will understand that Jesus is truly risen. When the day is dark, the waters deep, the outlook grim — you’ll see Jesus.’

‘Sure, I want to know the Lord,’ people say. ‘I just don’t want to go through tough times. Of course I want to know His power — but I don’t want to deal with the fellowship which comes through suffering.’

Yet the only way you can know the Lord intimately is through the power of His resurrection. And the best way to experience the power of His resurrection is through hard times ...

‘How many men did we throw in the fire?’ asked Nebuchadnezzar.
‘Three, your highness.’
‘Well, how is it that I see four, and the fourth is like the Son of God?’

So clearly did Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-nego see Jesus in the fire of suffering that they chose to remain in the fiery furnace with Him rather than to walk free without Him (Daniel 3:26).

We know the Lord by realizing He’s with us in times of suffering and by choosing to say, ‘Lord, I’ll die to myself in order to have fellowship with You. As long as I try to protect myself, I’ll not know You in the way I want to. So Lord, I choose to conform myself to Your death. Do what You want in my life.’

When Jesus started talking about the Cross, Peter’s response was, ‘Be it far from Thee, Lord. It’s not going to happen’ (Matthew 16:22).

And Peter’s is a cry we utter as well. ‘Not the Cross,’ we say. ‘’Not death, or bankruptcy, break-ups or leukemia. We want Cadillacs, miraculous healings, and holy laughter — that’s our kind of Christianity, Lord.’

We’re just like Peter. But when, to one degree or another, we experience the fellowship of suffering, we begin to say, ’I now choose death in order that I might know Jesus better.’

Christians are the only people who can truly choose to rejoice and be happy when things on the outside seem so bleak because we’re the only ones who know there will be a fellowship in suffering which will manifest the power of Jesus and His resurrection, and which will, in turn, allow the degree of intimacy with God which will make us deeply happy and truly blessed.

When I heard these things, I sat down and wept. For some days I mourned and fasted and *prayed* before the God of heaven.

But when Sanballat, Tobiah, the Arabs, the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites heard that the repair of the walls of Jerusalem went on, and that the breaches were being closed, they were very angry. They all conspired together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to cause a disturbance and disruption.
But we *prayed* to our God, and because of them we set up a guard against them day and night.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for the example of Nehemiah's prayer. Give me the humility and thankfulness to respond to Your call with "Here I am use me as a vessel for your honor" Provide and protect me from opposition as I rebuild.
I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.

Ephesians 2:19 (NIV)
Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household,

For those born in a nation, citizenship is a right and is never given any thought to acquire and maintain. However for those not born in that nation, acquired citizenship is a privilege and honour, and as such highly treasured.

In Christ one becomes a citizen of the kingdom of God. As a fundamental privilege thus, you get full access to the Father through the Spirit. (V18). Earthly kingdoms are known to mobilize their capabilities to secure and supply its citizens even in situations of danger, including military interventions. How much more Jesus!
Jesus says “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5). That is a profound commitment to his subjects. It is beyond what we can put down in a language. It unlocks the unlimited power and ever-present help of God at all instances for those who trust in him. No eye has seen or ear heard or mind envisioned what is in store!

Luke 20:1-8 One day as Jesus was teaching the people in the temple courts and proclaiming the good news, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, together with the elders, came up to him. “Tell us by what authority you are doing these things,” they said. “Who gave you this authority?” He replied, “I will also ask you a question. Tell me: John’s baptism—was it from heaven, or of human origin?” They discussed it among themselves and said, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ he will ask, ‘Why didn’t you believe him?’ But if we say, ‘Of human origin,’ all the people will stone us, because they are persuaded that John was a prophet.” So they answered, “We don’t know where it was from.” Jesus said, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I am doing these things.”

The religious leaders asked Jesus on the source of His authority. The Chief priests were the temple officials; the teachers of the Law, often called "scribes" were made up of both Pharisees and Sadducees, and the elders may have been laymen who were political leaders. They asked two questions: By what authority was He acting, and who gave Him authority? The first question dealt with the kind of authority Jesus was using. Was He a prophet, a priest, or a king? No doubt the words doing these things referred to His cleansing the temple. The second question dealt with who was backing Him. Did Jesus believe that He was acting on His own or was He acting for some group?

Jesus responded with a question, He asked them about the authority behind John's baptism. The religious leaders had disapproved the baptizing work of John, for John had humiliated them and had taken away some allegiance from their religious system (Matthew 3:7-10). Because the crowds venerated John the Baptist, the religious leaders were afraid to deny his authority and therefore refused to answer Jesus' question. So Jesus therefore refused to tell by what authority He had cleansed the temple. The implication was that He was doing His work with the same authority-- God in heaven--by which John the Baptist baptised.

The cleansing of the temple by Jesus made the religious leaders question the source of His authority. The crowds needed no explanation they knew His authority was from heaven. Often times as you serve those in authority will question you but the crowds already know if it is God who us with you. Have a terrific Tuesday and continue serving without fear.
May God grant us boldness.

Seed germination

TEST YOUR SEED GERMINATION AT HOME

Some Families have asked how to tell if their older Seeds are still good to plant. This would be good if you have some older Seeds you might want to check, or maybe some Seeds you saved from the Garden. Testing your Seed germination is the best way to know this. If you store your Seeds properly, you will be able to keep them viable, with a high germination rate for years. You should know, before you start your Seeds indoors or sow your Seeds in your Garden, how healthy and viable they really are. One way to know, is to purchase your Heirloom Seeds from a reputable company, like THE SEED GUY. We conduct our own tests, and only send out fresh Heirloom Seeds that can pass the muster. (We have Fresh 2023 Harvest Seeds Now)

Now, if you have old seeds, or are curious about the quality of seeds that you grew and saved, taking the time to do a home germination test might be a good idea.

HERE IS WHAT YOU DO:
1) Use a spray bottle, and mist down a paper towel until it is thoroughly wet.

2) You will need a sampling of Seeds for your test. The more seeds the better, but at the same time you don't want to use too many of them. It really depends on how many Seeds you have of each varieties you are going to test. For instance, if you only have 50 Corn Seeds, then don't test 20 of them. I would say you should either test 10 - 20 seeds of each variety, or if you only have a small amount of seed, then no more than 10% of them.

3) Place seeds of the variety to be tested on one half of the wet paper towel, and then fold the other half over the seeds. Put the wet paper towel and Seeds in a plastic ziplock bag, and then seal it. You can use a black magic marker to mark the name of Seed variety, amount of Seeds, and starting date on outside of bag.

4) The bag should be kept in a warm dark place. A cabinet above your refrigerator is a good place.. When you check on the Seeds from day to day, make sure the paper towel stays moist, and doesn't dry out. You can mist it from time to time.

5) Seed germination varies for each variety, but after a few days--your seeds will begin germinating. You will have to keep a running tally on good and bad seeds as you do this. The count of the Seeds that germinate (sprout) will give you an accurate germination percentage. If a Seed germinates (sprouts) then it is counted as a good seed. If some of the seeds mold or don't sprout at all, then count as bad seeds.

6) When doing this test, give your Seeds 10 days, or less if they have all germinated before then. Count all your Seeds that have germinated (sprouted) in the sampling. If you tested 20 Bloomsdale Spinach Seeds, and 18 of them germinated, then your germination percentage would be 18/20 or 90%.

If your germination percentage is 80% or higher, then your Seeds will do just fine when time to plant them. If you noticed a lower percentage, like for example 50%, you can still make do with them by planting twice as many Seeds to get the harvest that you want. Keep in mind that older seeds, with lower germination percentages, won't be as vigorous or healthy as fresh Seeds. Sometimes, your best bet is to toss out the old Seeds, and purchase fresher seed stock. It's up to you.

At THE SEED GUY, we always add a thick 10 x 14 silver mylar bag in our Heirloom Seed packages. Your Heirloom Seed packets, sealed in the mylar bag, will stay more viable and Higher Germination for 5-7 years in the refrigerator, and up to 10 years in the freezer. Seeds will last longer than this, but germination rates start dropping off quite a bit after these time frames.

If you need some Fresh Heirloom Seeds, we have a great 60 Variety Heirloom Seed Package. It has 34,000 Seeds, Small Farm Grown, Fresh from The New 2023 Harvest, and all Seeds are Non GMO,. You will get 49 Veggie Seed varieties, and then 11 Heirloom Herb varieties, and SALE Pricing Now at $79,

Benefits of Epsom salt in plants

HEALTHIER TOMATOES + PEPPERS FROM EPSOM SALT

Have you ever tried Epsom Salt in your Garden? You can use it as a soil amendment before seeding to give your garden a powerful boost from the start. Magnesium aids in seed germination and helps to strengthen cell walls, leading to more and stronger seedlings. For best results, use 1 cup of salt per 100 square feet of tilled soil or mix 1 – 2 tablespoons into the soil at the bottom of each hole before dropping in seeds

Tomatoes should be fed Epsom salt twice as often as other plants. Also, because tomato vines are prone to calcium-deficiency (blossom end rot), the majority of tomato fertilizers contain calcium which will compete with magnesium for root absorption. Therefore, foliar feeding is the more efficient method for delivering magnesium to these plants. Water tomato vines with dissolved Epsom salt – 2 tablespoons per gallon of water, every 2 weeks.

Peppers are another popular garden plant with a higher-than average fruit to plant size ratio. Because of this, they should also be fed magnesium every two weeks to achieve higher yields of larger fruits. For hot peppers, over-watering can lead to fruit with less heat, thus the soil amendment method may be preferable in this case. Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of Epsom salt for every foot of height around the drip line of your pepper plants once per week.

Plants that aren’t getting enough magnesium can be identified by their yellowing leaves. This is because magnesium is an essential component in the production of chlorophyll. Sprinkle Epsom salt around your plants to achieve healthier foliage. About 1 tablespoon per 12 inches of height once a month will benefit the plants in your vegetable garden, as well as any trees, shrubs, flowers and grasses you want to green up.

Leaf curling may also be caused by magnesium-deficiency in plants. Again, add Epsom salt to the soil around the base of the sick plant. Alternately, for faster absorption you can mix 2 tablespoons of Epsom salt in a gallon of water and apply directly to the leaves.

Have you ever wondered why your neighbors’ rose bushes are fuller than yours and sport so many more blossoms? It is highly likely that the answer is Epsom salt. Not only does it help roses to produce larger blossoms in greater numbers, but it also aids in the growth of new canes from the base of the plant. And of course, Epsom salt increases chlorophyll production meaning darker leaves.

For maximum benefit, roses should at the least be fed with Epsom salt at time of planting, then again at the first sign of new growth, and once more when the flowers are in full bloom. Bare root roses may also be soaked in water containing dissolved Epsom salt before planting.

You really can't use too much Epsom salt in your garden. Magnesium sulfate is pH neutral, so it won’t harm your soil. The crystals break down into water, magnesium, and sulfur – three components which are beneficial in some way to most plants. Epsom salt is safe, easy to apply, and works fast to correct a variety of problems and increase the overall health of your garden. As if that weren’t enough, Epsom salt is also inexpensive making it one of the most perfect tools for the health-conscious, responsible gardener.
