JESUS KEPT THE SABBATH (RESTED) EVEN IN HIS DEATH!

54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
55 And the women also, which came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulchre, and how his body was laid.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested the sabbath day according to the commandment. Luke 23:54-56

At last Jesus was at rest. The long day of shame and torture was ended. As the last rays of the setting sun ushered in the Sabbath, the Son of God lay in quietude in Joseph’s tomb. His work completed, His hands folded in peace, He rested through the sacred hours of the Sabbath day.

In the beginning the Father and the Son had rested upon the Sabbath after Their work of creation. When “the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them” (Genesis 2:1), the Creator and all heavenly beings rejoiced in contemplation of the glorious scene. “The morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy.” Job 38:7. Now Jesus rested from the work of redemption; and though there was grief among those who loved Him on earth, yet there was joy in heaven. Glorious to the eyes of heavenly beings was the promise of the future. A restored creation, a redeemed race, that having conquered sin could never fall,—this, the result to flow from Christ’s completed work, God and angels saw. With this scene the day upon which Jesus rested is forever linked. For “His work is perfect;” and “whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever.” Deuteronomy 32:4; Ecclesiastes 3:14. When there shall be a “restitution of all things, which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began” (Acts 3:21), the creation Sabbath, the day on which Jesus lay at rest in Joseph’s tomb, will still be a day of rest and rejoicing. Heaven and earth will unite in praise, as “from one Sabbath to another” (Isaiah 66:23) the nations of the saved shall bow in joyful worship to God and the Lamb.

BROKEN PROTOCOLS
By The Gardener

"And the child Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod." (1 Samuel 2:18)

Hannah’s story is one of defying expectations and breaking human protocol in pursuit of God. In a time when a woman's prayers were often mediated through priests, Hannah bypassed her husband Elkanah and the priest Eli to pour out her heart directly to God. She refused to accept barrenness as her portion and made a bold vow that, if given a son, she would dedicate him to lifelong service in the temple. This act of desperation and faith broke societal and religious norms—but God honored it.

The breaking of protocol did not stop there. After Samuel was born, Hannah weaned him—likely around three to five years old—and then did something unheard of: she brought him to live in the temple permanently (1 Samuel 1:24-28). What mother would surrender her child at such a young age? Children at that age still need nurture and care, yet Hannah recognized that Samuel belonged to God and not to her.

In response, God broke protocol too. Samuel was not a Levite, yet he wore a linen ephod, the garment of a priest (1 Samuel 2:18). The priesthood was strictly reserved for the sons of Levi, yet Samuel, from the tribe of Ephraim, was set apart for priestly service. While Eli’s corrupt sons, Hophni and Phinehas, disrespected their roles, Samuel grew in wisdom, stature, and favor with God and men (1 Samuel 2:26).

Samuel's age was another broken protocol. God typically called prophets when they were older and more experienced, yet He chose to speak directly to Samuel as a child (1 Samuel 3:1-10). Though Eli was the high priest, God bypassed him and called the boy instead. Samuel’s childlike faith positioned him to hear from God when others could not.

This story teaches us that when we boldly break human protocol in the pursuit of God, He breaks divine protocol to bless us in extraordinary ways. Hannah’s desperation led to a miracle, and Samuel’s obedience led to his supernatural calling. If you are willing to step out in faith, regardless of what tradition or culture dictates, God will meet you with divine favor, acceleration, and purpose beyond human limitations.

Reflection Question: What protocol is God asking you to break in order to seek Him more deeply?

"Lord, give me the courage to seek You beyond human expectations. As I pursue You with boldness, break every limitation and release Your extraordinary favor in my life. Amen."

01-01-2025 New Year Charity Party 🥳 🎉 for our inmates .1 Chronicles 20:25 New Living Translation (NLT) King Jehoshaphat and his men went out to gather the plunder. They found vast amounts of equipment, clothing, and other valuables—more than they could carry. There was so much plunder that it took them three days just to collect it all!

It's the year of gathering the plunder!
Go forth with confidence like King Jehoshaphat and his men.
Amen.
