The message of Jesus was no longer confined to Jerusalem. As persecution scattered the believers, the gospel began to spread into new regions and new hearts.
In Samaria, many listened and believed as the message was preached with power. Lives were changed, and the good news took root beyond the boundaries of Judea.
Further along the road, a man from Ethiopia was reading the Scriptures but did not yet understand them. God sent Philip to meet him. Beginning with the very passage he was reading, Philip explained the good news about Jesus. The man believed and was baptised, carrying the message back toward his own land.
Meanwhile, in Caesarea, a Roman centurion named Cornelius was seeking God. Though not a Jew, his prayers were heard. God prepared both him and Peter for what would happen next.
Peter was given a vision that challenged everything he had known. He was shown that the message of salvation was not limited to one nation. When he came to Cornelius’s house, he understood that God shows no favouritism, but accepts those who fear Him and seek what is right.
As Peter spoke, those listening believed, and the Holy Spirit was given to them. They were baptised, marking a new step in the unfolding plan of God.
The message of Jesus had now clearly crossed the boundary. It was for all people.
In Antioch, believers from different backgrounds came together, and the message continued to grow. It was there that the followers of Jesus were first called Christians.
What began in Jerusalem was now reaching outward, just as Jesus had said. The message was moving toward the ends of the earth.
