One of the greatest struggles in many African societies, especially in Kenya, is the lack of genuine belief in each other’s dreams. Many people will only believe in your vision after it has already succeeded, but very few are willing to stand with you when the dream is still young, uncertain, and struggling to grow.

At the beginning, some people discourage you out of jealousy, while others laugh at your ideas and question your ability. They fail to see the potential hidden in your passion, sacrifice, and determination. But when you keep pushing, endure the hardships, and finally succeed, the same people suddenly want your support, your opportunities, and a place in the vision they once ignored.

This is why some successful people eventually distance themselves from others, and sadly, the cycle continues from one generation to another.

It is time for us to change this mindset. Learn to believe in people before the world applauds them. Support your friends, family, and community even when you do not fully understand their journey. Encouragement, loyalty, and support can transform a life, build a family, and uplift an entire nation.

If Africans learn to genuinely support one another’s dreams, we can raise stronger leaders, create more opportunities, and fight poverty together. Sometimes, all a person needs is someone who simply believes in them before success arrives.
