*Verse of the Day*

*Proverbs 1:10*

My son, if sinners entice you, do not give in to them.

*Commentary*

The real issue isn't "if" but "when" we're enticed and tempted! Our children face tremendous peer pressure and temptations. We do, too! We must help them resist the enticements of this pressure. Also, we must never tire of resisting them ourselves. One example of a parent preparing his child for trials and temptations is found when God affirmed his Son, Jesus, with affirming words at his baptism when he opened the heaves and said: "You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased" (Luke 3:21). And if the words weren't enough, God opened the heavens and sent down Holy Spirit in the form of a dove! How vital were these words of affirmation? When we see what happened next, Jesus' forty days of temptation in the wilderness, we realize they were essential! Satan's first words to Jesus were, "If you are the Son of God..." God had already blessed his Son with words of affirmation and encouragement before his trials. How much more do those we love need our words of affirmation and love to resist their trials and temptations?!

*Prayer*

O God, I do face temptations and enticements. Please guard my heart, my life, and my example. Please help me be a person of character and integrity. In addition, please enable me to lead, protect, guard, and warn my loved ones — those in my physical and spiritual families and help the avoid stumbling and falling in trials and temptations. In Jesus' name, I pray. *Amen*

*Verse of the Day*

*John 1:14*

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

*Commentary*

God's Message, this Word, wasn't content to stay confined to a book, a prophecy, or a scroll. Praise God! God's Message, his ultimate Word, took on flesh, blood, and bones! Praise God Almighty! God's Message, his Word incarnate, didn't remain far off, distantly holy or unapproachable. Praise the Lord , God of Israel because God's Message, his Word sent to us, came near "full of grace and truth" in Jesus. This Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us" to bring us love, hope, redemption, mercy, salvation, joy, and so much more! God's Word, Jesus, "became flesh and made his dwelling among us"!

*Prayer*

Almighty God, I praise and exalt your name above all names. Your love is greater than the volume of all of our oceans. Your mercy stretches farther than the great expanses of our known space. Your grace is beyond calculation. Your salvation is marvelous beyond compare. Thank you for blessing me with all of these in Jesus, your Word, who came and lived in my world so I can make my home in yours. In the name of Christ the Lord , your Word who became flesh, I praise you. *Amen*

*Verse of the Day*

*Romans 2:6-7*

God "will give to each person according to what he has done" (Psalm 62:12). To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life.

*Commentary*

God not only seeks after us, but he also desires a relationship with us — he longs for us to seek after him and after matters that are important to him. When we persistently seek his glory by doing good deeds and seek eternal values rather than temporal things, he is overjoyed to give us what he has always designed for us: eternal life with him and influence on others for good. In other words, the seeking God is always looking for those seeking him!

*Prayer*

Abba Father, thank you for loving me when I was lost and sinned. Thank you for not just loving me but also seeking me by sending Jesus. Thank you for your justice that you met with your grace in your Son Jesus. I confess that I sometimes get distracted and upset with things that don't matter very much. Please bless me as I seek to discipline my heart and focus my desires on eternal things as I seek your glory and honor in how I conduct my life. I find it reassuring, Father, that your desire to bless me with eternal life is still even greater than my pursuit of it. In Jesus' precious name, I pray. *Amen*

*Verse of the Day*

*Isaiah 6:6-7*

Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. With it he touched my mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away and your sin atoned for."

*Commentary*

Isaiah's experience of God's presence brought him sacred cleansing necessary for his life of service to Israel. Similarly, when we put the bread and wine to our lips during the Lord 's Supper, God reminds us that our "guilt has been taken away" and our "sin has been atoned for" by the sacrifice of Jesus and the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus did for us what we could never do: he provided the perfect sacrifice for our sins, and the Holy Spirit purified us and came to live in us (1 Corinthians 6:9-11). Our holiness, righteousness, and perfection are not won through our efforts on earth but by the Son who came from heaven's glory and gave his life so that we might be the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21; Philippians 2:5-11).

*Prayer*

O precious and loving Father, thank you for your perfect sacrifice for my sins. Please use me to help others know of your incredible gift that allows them to stand before you holy and without any stain of sin. To you be all glory, honor, thanks, and praise in the name of Jesus, my Savior, and Lord . *Amen*

*Verse of the Day*

*Psalm 141:4*

Let not my heart be drawn to what is evil, to take part in wicked deeds with men who are evildoers; let me not eat of their delicacies.

*Commentary*

How important is it for you to be pure? How important is it for you to be righteous? For David, who had experienced the elation of sharing an intimate holy relationship with God and the utter pain of miserably failing God, guarding his heart was of ultimate importance. He didn't want to have any part of evil. He didn't want to be attracted to it. He didn't want to be a part of those who committed vile deeds. He didn't even want to take part in the luxuries and feasts provided by evil people. What am I willing to ask God to withhold from me to protect my heart from evil?

*Prayer*

Father, don't let me be tempted by what is vile, hideous, or evil. Please give me a holy revulsion for what is false and deceptive. Give me clarity of sight and purity of heart to be able to see evil and the things associated with it so that I can stay far away from the tempter's snare and the things that would soil your holy name. In Jesus' name, I pray. *Amen*

*Verse of the Day*

*Amos 5:24*

But let justice roll on like a river, righteousness like a never-failing stream!

*Commentary*

While many attribute this quote to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., it was originally uttered by Amos, God's spokesman, over 2600 years earlier than Dr. King quoted it. God wanted his people to know that their religious pilgrimages, sacrificial offerings, and songs meant nothing to him if a life of compassion, character, and concern did not back them up. Northern Israel did not believe Amos and did not repent. Not too many years later, they were utterly destroyed because God found their hypocrisy, injustice, and abuse of the weak reprehensible. But we live now, and these words are as powerful and clear as they were then!

*Prayer*

Almighty God, many of your children are ashamed today of the unrighteousness in our world and our nations. Please use us to lead a rebirth of character. And Father, as we seek to live holy lives, please keep our eyes on your righteous character, gracious compassion, and faithful love-based justice. Lord, help us demonstrate these same character qualities with those who need to know your love and receive your salvation. In Jesus' name, we pray. *Amen*

"According to Psychologists, there are four types of Intelligence:

1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ): this is the measure of your level of comprehension. You need IQ to solve maths, memorize things, and recall lessons.

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ): this is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate.

3. Social Quotient (SQ): this is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ. Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down.

A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ and SQ even though he has an average IQ.

Your EQ represents your Character, while your SQ represents your Charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs, especially your EQ and SQ.

Now there is a 4th one, a new paradigm:

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ): The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life, and come out of it without losing your mind.

When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up, who will abandon their family, and who will consider su***de.

Parents please expose your children to other areas of life than just Academics. They should adore manual labour (never use work as a form of punishment), Sports and Arts.

Develop their IQ, as well as their EQ, SQ and AQ. They should become multifaceted human beings able to do things independently of their parents.

Finally, do not prepare the road for your children. Prepare your children for the road."

*Verse of the Day*

*1 John 5:20*

We know also that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true. And we are in him who is true

*Commentary*

Jesus came to reveal God to us. He has given us the clearest picture of what God is really like and how God would interact with us. Because of Jesus, we can know God, the only one who is truly genuine. Because we are in Christ, we can share a special bond with the Father and find a new quality of life in him. This is lasting life that won't end when our bodies die. This is eternal life that begins now (John 5:24), as we walk with him each day, and extends forever (John 3:16-17, 10:25-26). For the eternal and transcendent God to make himself known to us is grace. For him to make himself known to us in Jesus is salvation!

*Prayer*

Holy and awesome Father, I know that I will enjoy your presence forever because my life is joined to you through Jesus. I love you for all you have done for me and the terrible price you paid to redeem me from my sins. I love you for creating me and having a plan for my life when no one else knew I was even conceived. Most of all, I love you for being God and choosing to be the kind of Father who wants his children to know and love him. In Jesus' name. *Amen*

*Verse of the Day*

*Romans 15:14*

I myself am convinced, my brothers, that you yourselves are full of goodness, complete in knowledge and competent to instruct one another.

*Commentary*

While we may be flawed and imperfect, Paul reminds us of how important, competent, and useful we can be to each other. While our hope is in God, he has given us each other to help us in our walk of faith. Let's not live as isolated islands of faith, but lean on each other and learn from each other as we look to Christ for our salvation and strength.

*Prayer*

Thank you, dear Father, for placing the people in my life who have shaped, taught, corrected, and supported me in my life with you. I am thankful for your support of me through their words, example, and touch. Thank you for giving me a family to travel with on my journey home to you. In the name of Jesus, I pray. *Amen*
