The reformed tradition uses its doctrine as a basis of exclusion and sometimes as a basis of condemnation.

When Paul realized that the question of food had become an issue of believers judging each other, he calls them out. How can you judge another person's servants. Judging here is not criticizing. Judging here is calling the masters call. The Lord has not allowed us to make the ultimate call as to who is a wheat and who is a tare. Paul realized that they had made the issue of meat offered to idols as an issue of exclusion.

"Over time believers have been inflamed with theological disagreements. Who is and who is not to be included in the family of faith. This has been part of the history of the church."

Such an attitude of humility helps us to realize that we are not enemies with people with different viewpoints, neither must we allow ourselves to be intimidated.
The process of dissecting and understanding doctrine is a taxing and laborious responsibility.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.” 2 Tim. 2:15
Key word: Do your best (KJV—study)
A personal discipline. Approval by God is the goal of our study

Doctrine is not a private affair. It is to be the public property of the church. It is to be passed on as the heritage of the church. It is not passed on by the elite people but the faithful people.

It is concerning how many Calvinists draw confidence from the ‘names’ that are associated with the doctrine—all the way from Calvin himself.
In evaluating the book, ‘Young, Restless and Reformed” by Collin Hansen, Mattdabbs observes that the book (in its defense of Calvinism): “seems they really venerate men like Edwards, Calvin, Piper and others. I bet their names appeared over 100 times in this book. Names like Jesus, Paul, Peter, etc. paled in comparison. This book is a lot about personalities. He even says that if Piper weren’t so zealous in his presentation that young people wouldn’t listen to him.”

"There is no denying that the man of God syndrome is a sad reality in the Pentecostal / Charismatic churches. But we also need to be wary of subtle forms of the man of God syndrome that can crop anywhere to settle our understanding of doctrine"

The downward spiral

"If you tell me there is cessation, you have to tell me whether only the devil now has manifestation of power. Handling God's word is not an antithesis to the manifestation of the spirit"

"This afternoon we must reaffirm again. That even though there is a number of people who have misrepresented the gospel and its power, it does not mean that God's power is not there even today"
