I know whom I have believed:
2 Timothy 1:12
[12]For this reason I also suffer these things; nevertheless I am not ashamed, for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day. Be Loyal to the Faith
Daniel 11:32
[32]Those who do wickedly against the covenant he shall corrupt with flattery; but the people who know their God shall be strong, and carry out great exploits.
One of the ways we know God is through the revelation of His various attributes and characteristics
1)God is faithful
Titus 1:1-2
[1]Paul, a bondservant of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect and the acknowledgment of the truth which accords with godliness,
[2]in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,
Numbers 23:19
[19]“God is not a man, that He should lie, Nor a son of man, that He should repent. Has He said, and will He not do? Or has He spoken, and will He not make it good?
The only One we can trust without reservation is God. Because of His character, He “cannot lie” (Titus 1:2). Whatever He says or does is absolute truth. He has no ability to contradict Himself. When He makes a promise, He can’t help but keep it. He never deviates from His will or His Word.
Because God is trustworthy, we can be sure that He is always faithful toward His own children. That’s why you can trust Him no matter what happens. Although you may be experiencing adversity, you can know that He is reliable.
2)God is Holy
The holiness of God is His intrinsic and transcendent purity, the standard of righteousness to which the whole universe must conform.
God does not conform to any standard created by others. He is the standard.
Isaiah 6:1-3
[1]In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord sitting on a throne, high and lifted up, and the train of His robe filled the temple.
[2]Above it stood seraphim; each one had six wings: with two he covered his face, with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew.
[3]And one cried to another and said: “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; The whole earth is full of His glory!”
1 Peter 1:14-16
[14]as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance;
[15]but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct,
[16]because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”
3)God is Good
One attributes that accurately defines who God is, is that God is a good God.
God's goodness can be defined as the collective perfections of His nature and the benevolence of His acts…God is good by nature and good in what He does.
The goodness of God means that God is the final standard of good, and that all that God is and does is worthy of approval.
Exodus 33:18-19
[18]And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”
[19]Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
Exodus 34:6
[6]And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,
Psalms 31:19
[19]Oh, how great is Your goodness, Which You have laid up for those who fear You, Which You have prepared for those who trust in You In the presence of the sons of men!
Psalms 27:13
[13]I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living.
5)God is patient
We would define the Divine patience as that power of control which God exercises over Himself, causing Him to bear with the wicked and forebear so long in punishing them.
Nehemiah 9:30
[30]Yet for many years You had patience with them, And testified against them by Your Spirit in Your prophets. Yet they would not listen; Therefore You gave them into the hand of the peoples of the lands.
Jeremiah 15:15
[15]O Lord, You know; Remember me and visit me, And take vengeance for me on my persecutors. In Your enduring patience, do not take me away. Know that for Your sake I have suffered rebuke.
6) GOD is omniscient
Psalms 139:1-6
[1]O Lord, You have searched me and known me.
[2]You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off.
[3]You comprehend my path and my lying down, And are acquainted with all my ways.
[4]For there is not a word on my tongue, But behold, O Lord, You know it altogether.
[5]You have hedged me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me.
God knows every detail of our lives
Luke 12:7
[7]But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. Confess Christ Before Men
[6]Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is high, I cannot attain it.
God knows the hearts of all men
1 Samuel 16:7
[7]But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
“Know the God of your father, and serve Him with a whole heart and a willing mind; for the LORD searches all hearts, and understands every intent of the thoughts” (1 Chron. 28:9).
Hebrews 4:13: “There is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do.”
7)God is omnipresent
Psalms 139:7-12
[7]Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?
[8]If I ascend into heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in hell, behold, You are there.
[9]If I take the wings of the morning, And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
[10]Even there Your hand shall lead me, And Your right hand shall hold me.
[11]If I say, “Surely the darkness shall fall on me,” Even the night shall be light about me;
[12]Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You, But the night shines as the day; The darkness and the light are both alike to You.
We can be assured that God is with us all the time
Isaiah 41:10
[10]Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’
Matthew 28:20
[20]teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.
8)God is omnipotent
God is omnipotent. He has the ability and power to do anything.
When God exercises His power, He does so effortlessly. It is no more difficult for Him to create a universe than to make a butterfly.
The omnipotence of God is His ability and strength to bring to pass whatsoever He pleases.
His power is such that He can do whatever He pleases without difficulty or resistance; He cannot be checked, restrained, or frustrated.
Jeremiah 32:27
[27]“Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is there anything too hard for Me?
Matthew 19:26
[26]But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”
9) God is just
Psalms 7:11
[11]God is a just judge, And God is angry with the wicked every day.
Psalms 33:5
[5]He loves righteousness and justice; The earth is full of the goodness of the Lord.
Psalms 37:28
[28]For the Lord loves justice, And does not forsake His saints; They are preserved forever, But the descendants of the wicked shall be cut off.
10)God is merciful
Nehemiah 1:5
[5]And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments,
Nehemiah 9:31
[31]Nevertheless in Your great mercy You did not utterly consume them nor forsake them; For You are God, gracious and merciful.
Psalms 5:7
[7]But as for me, I will come into Your house in the multitude of Your mercy; In fear of You I will worship toward Your holy temple.
Psalms 25:10
[10]All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.
Psalms 57:10
[10]For Your mercy reaches unto the heavens, And Your truth unto the clouds.
11)God is love
John 3:16
[16]For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
1 John 4:8
[8]He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
12)God is immutable
Scripture would also teach that God is immutable. “Immutability means not having the ability to change."
the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end. Psalm 102:25–27
“I the LORD do not change”Malachi (3:6).
Hebrews 13:8
[8]Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
13)The Sovereignty of God
"My counsel shall stand, and I will do all My pleasure" (Isa. 46:10);
"He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand" (Dan. 4:35).
Psalms 135:5-6
[5]For I know that the Lord is great, And our Lord is above all gods.
[6]Whatever the Lord pleases He does, In heaven and in earth, In the seas and in all deep places.
The sovereignty of God may be defined as the exercise of His supremacy. It means being infinitely elevated above the highest creature, He is the Most High, Lord of heaven and earth. Subject to none, influenced by none, absolutely independent; God does as He pleases, only as He pleases always as He pleases. None can thwart Him, none can hinder Him.
