WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY

Theme: "Stewards of God's Creation"

Main Text:

Genesis 2:15 "And the Lord God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it."

Introduction

World Environment Day reminds us of our responsibility to care for the earth. Long before environmental conservation became a global concern, God entrusted humanity with the stewardship of His creation. The earth belongs to God, and we are called to manage it faithfully.

Psalm 24:1 "The earth is the Lord's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein."

I. GOD IS THE CREATOR OF THE ENVIRONMENT

A. God Created Everything Good

Genesis 1:31 "And God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good."

Creation reflects God's wisdom and power.

Nature reveals God's glory.

The environment is a gift from God.

Psalm 19:1 "The heavens declare the glory of God."

Lessons

Respect God's creation.

Appreciate the beauty and resources God has provided.

Worship the Creator through gratitude.

II. HUMANITY IS APPOINTED AS STEWARDS

A. We Are Caretakers, Not Owners

Genesis 2:15
[15]And the Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and guard and keep it.

The words "dress" and "keep" mean:

Cultivate

Protect

Preserve

B. Stewardship Requires Responsibility

Luke 16:10 "He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much."

Lessons

Use natural resources wisely.

Avoid wastefulness.

Leave a healthy environment for future generations.

III. SIN AFFECTED CREATION

A. The Fall Brought a Curse Upon the Earth

Genesis 3:17-19
[17]And to Adam He said, Because you have listened and given heed to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it, the ground is under a curse because of you; in sorrow and toil shall you eat [of the fruits] of it all the days of your life.
[18]Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth for you, and you shall eat the plants of the field.
[19]In the sweat of your face shall you eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for dust you are and to dust you shall return.

Human rebellion affected the environment.

Greed and selfishness lead to destruction.

Pollution, deforestation, and environmental degradation are often results of human irresponsibility.

B. Creation Suffers

Romans 8:22 "For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now."

Lessons

Environmental problems are also spiritual issues.

Repentance includes responsible living.

IV. GOD EXPECTS US TO CARE FOR HIS CREATION

A. God's Laws Included Environmental Protection

Deuteronomy 20:19
[19]When you besiege a city for a long time, making war against it to take it, you shall not destroy its trees by using an ax on them, for you can eat their fruit; you must not cut them down, for is the tree of the field a man, that it should be besieged by you?

God instructed Israel not to destroy fruit trees unnecessarily during war.

B. Wisdom in Resource Management

Proverbs 12:10 "A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast."

Practical Ways to Care for Creation

Plant trees.

Keep our surroundings clean.

Avoid pollution.

Conserve water and energy.

Protect wildlife and natural resources.

V. CREATION POINTS PEOPLE TO GOD

A. Nature Reveals God's Character

Romans 1:20
[20]For ever since the creation of the world His invisible nature and attributes, that is, His eternal power and divinity, have been made intelligible and clearly discernible in and through the things that have been made (His handiworks). So [men] are without excuse [altogether without any defense or justification], [Ps. 19: 1-4.]

God's power is seen in creation.

God's wisdom is displayed in nature.

God's faithfulness is reflected in the seasons.

B. Environmental Care Becomes a Witness

Matthew 5:16
[16]Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.

When Christians care for God's world, they demonstrate God's love and wisdom.

VI. THE FUTURE OF CREATION

A. God Will Restore Creation

Isaiah 65:17
[17]For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth. And the former things shall not be remembered or come into mind. [Isa. 66:22; II Pet. 3:13; Rev. 21:1.]

"For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth."

B. The Hope of Renewal

Revelation 21:1
[1]THEN I saw a new sky (heaven) and a new earth, for the former sky and the former earth had passed away (vanished), and there no longer existed any sea. [Isa. 65:17; 66:22.]

God's final plan includes the restoration of all things.

Lessons

We care for creation not because it is eternal, but because it belongs to God.

Our stewardship today reflects our hope in God's coming kingdom.

Conclusion

God has entrusted His creation to us. World Environment Day is an opportunity to renew our commitment to biblical stewardship. Christians should lead in caring for the environment because creation belongs to God.

Key Truths

1. God created the earth.

2. Humanity is God's steward.

3. Sin damages creation.

4. Christians must care for the environment.

5. God will ultimately restore creation.

Memory Verse

Genesis 2:15 "And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it."

Closing Prayer

Heavenly Father, thank You for creating the earth and entrusting it to our care. Forgive us where we have neglected our responsibility as stewards. Give us wisdom to use Your resources faithfully, to protect the environment, and to be good caretakers of all that You have made. May our lives reflect Your love for creation and bring glory to Your name. Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Biblical Perspective of the Number 6 and the month of June.

In the Bible, the number 6 is often associated with man, human weakness, labor, and incompleteness. It usually falls short of the number 7, which symbolizes perfection and completeness.

1. The Number of Man

Man was created on the sixth day.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image…” — Genesis 1:26-31

This connects the number 6 with humanity, earthly life, and human responsibility.

2. The Number of Labor and Work

God ordained that man should labor for six days and rest on the seventh.
“Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work.” — Exodus 20:9

This shows:

diligence,

responsibility,

stewardship,

and preparation before rest.

3. Symbol of Human Limitation

Because 6 is one short of 7, it can symbolize:

incompleteness,

imperfection,

human effort without God’s fullness.

Human systems and strength alone are never fully complete without God.

4. Association With Human Government and Rebellion

One of the strongest biblical symbols involving 6 is:

666

In Revelation, 666 is called: “the number of a man” — Revelation 13:18

It represents:

fallen humanity,

rebellion against God,

human pride trying to replace divine authority.

5. Positive Lessons From the Number 6

Though it can symbolize weakness, it also teaches:

faithful work,

preparation,

dependence on God,

and the need to move from human effort into divine completion.

Biblical Perspective of the Month of June

The month of June is not specifically mentioned in the Bible because the modern calendar system (January–December) was developed much later. However, believers often draw spiritual reflections from the season and the symbolic meaning of the number 6 associated with June as the sixth month.

Spiritual Reflections for June

1. A Month of Responsible Labor

Since 6 is linked with work and service, June can be viewed as:

a season of diligence,

building,

planting,

and perseverance.
“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might.” — Ecclesiastes 9:10

2. A Reminder to Depend on God

June can remind believers that:

human effort alone is insufficient,

success comes from God’s grace.
“Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it.” — Psalms 127:1

3. A Midyear Season of Reflection

June often falls near the middle of the year, making it a good time for:

spiritual evaluation,

renewal of commitment,

prayer and redirection.

4. A Season of Growth

In many regions, June is associated with growth and harvest preparation. Spiritually, it may symbolize:

maturing faith,

fruitfulness,

spiritual development.
“That ye might walk worthy of the Lord… being fruitful in every good work.” — Colossians 1:10

Key Biblical Themes Connected to 6 and June

Theme Meaning

Humanity Man created on the sixth day
Work Six days of labor
Limitation Human weakness without God
Dependence Need for divine help
Preparation Working before rest and harvest
Reflection Midyear spiritual assessment

Suggested Prayer for June

“Lord, as I enter this sixth month, help me to labor faithfully, walk humbly, and depend fully on You. Let my efforts be guided by Your wisdom and empowered by Your Spirit. Bring spiritual growth, fruitfulness, and completion to every good work in my life, in Jesus’ name.
Amen.”

MADARAKA DAY
01/06/2026

TRUE FREEDOM AND RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP

Theme: "Standing Fast in the Freedom God Has Given Us"

Main Text: Galatians 5:1 "Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bo***ge."

Introduction

Madaraka Day, celebrated on 1st June, commemorates Kenya's attainment of internal self-rule in 1963. It reminds us of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom and self-governance.

As we celebrate national freedom, we should also reflect on spiritual freedom, personal responsibility, and godly leadership. Freedom is not merely the absence of oppression; it is the opportunity to fulfill God's purpose.

1. FREEDOM IS A GIFT THAT MUST BE VALUED

Text:

John 8:36
"If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

Lessons

Freedom was purchased through sacrifice.

National freedom came through the struggles of patriots.

Spiritual freedom came through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Freedom should never be taken for grañted.
Application

Appreciate those who paid the price for our nation's freedom.

Be thankful for Christ's sacrifice that delivers us from sin.

2. FREEDOM COMES WITH RESPONSIBILITY

Text:

Galatians 5:13
"For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another."

Lessons

Freedom is not a license for lawlessness.

Self-rule requires self-discipline.

Nations prosper when citizens act responsibly.

Christians must use their freedom to serve others.

Application

Practice integrity in business, work, and leadership.

Use freedom to build families, churches, and communities.

3. GOD DESIRES RIGHTEOUS LEADERSHIP

Text:

Proverbs 29:2
"When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice."

Lessons

Leadership is a sacred trust.

Nations rise or fall based on the character of their leaders.

God calls leaders to serve rather than dominate.

Application

Pray for national leaders.

Exercise leadership with humility and wisdom.

Encourage righteousness in public life.

4. A NATION'S STRENGTH IS IN ITS OBEDIENCE TO GOD

Text:

Psalm 33:12
"Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord."

Lessons

Economic strength alone cannot secure a nation.

Military power alone cannot preserve a nation.

God's favor remains the greatest source of national security.

Application

Seek God's guidance in national affairs.

Promote biblical values in society.

Call the nation to prayer and repentance.

5. TRUE MADARAKA BEGINS WITH SELF-MASTERY

Text:

Proverbs 16:32
"He that ruleth his spirit [is better] than he that taketh a city."

Lessons

Before governing others, we must govern ourselves.

Self-control is a mark of maturity.

National transformation begins with personal transformation.

Application

Discipline your thoughts, words, and actions.

Pursue holiness and godly character.

Become a positive influence in your community.

6. CHRIST OFFERS THE GREATEST FREEDOM

Text:

2 Corinthians 3:17
"Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty."

Lessons

Political freedom is important.

Economic freedom is valuable.

Spiritual freedom is eternal.

Jesus breaks the chains of sin, fear, and condemnation.

Application

Surrender your life to Christ.

Walk daily in the freedom of the Holy Spirit.

Share the Gospel that brings true liberty.

Conclusion

As we celebrate Madaraka Day, let us remember:

1. Freedom is precious.

2. Freedom requires responsibility.

3. Leadership demands righteousness.

4. Nations prosper when they honor God.

5. Self-mastery is the foundation of true independence.

6. Christ alone gives perfect and eternal freedom.

Key Challenge

"Kenya attained Madaraka in 1963, but have we attained spiritual Madaraka in Christ?"

Memory Verse

Galatians 5:1
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bo***ge."

Closing Prayer

"Father, we thank You for the gift of freedom and for the nation of Kenya. Bless our leaders with wisdom, integrity, and justice. Heal our land, unite our people, and help us to use our freedom responsibly. Above all, grant us the true liberty found in Jesus Christ. May Kenya be a nation that honors You and walks in righteousness. In Jesus' name, Amen."

1 Chronicles 4:1-10 (MSG) Sons of Judah: Perez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.
Reaiah, Shobal's son, had Jahath; and Jahath had Ahumai and Lahad. These made up the families of the Zorathites.
Sons of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash. Their sister was named Hazzelelponi.
Penuel had Gedor and Ezer had Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, firstborn son of Ephrathah, who was the father of Bethlehem.
Ashhur the father of Tekoa had two wives, Helah and Naarah.
Naarah gave birth to Ahuzzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari—Naarah's children.

Jabez was a better man than his brothers, a man of honor. His mother had named him Jabez (Oh, the pain!), saying, "A painful birth! I bore him in great pain!"
Jabez prayed to the God of Israel: "Bless me, O bless me! Give me land, large tracts of land. And provide your personal protection—don't let evil hurt me." God gave him what he asked. Msg.

“Breaking Out of Limitation — The Prayer of Jabez”
TEXT:
1 Chronicles 4:1–10

INTRODUCTION
Chronicles lists names — most pass without comment.
Suddenly, Scripture pauses to spotlight Jabez.
He began with a painful label, yet ended with a powerful testimony:
“And God granted his request.”
This shows: Your beginning does not have to determine your future.

I. JABEZ’S BACKGROUND — A STORY MARKED BY PAIN (v. 9)
1. He was given a painful name
“Jabez” means pain / sorrow maker.
His identity was shaped by circumstances beyond his control.
2. Lessons
People may label you — God can rename you.
Family history, failure, poverty, or rejection do not have the final word.
God specializes in rewriting stories.
Application: What “labels” have followed you? Bring them to God.

II. JABEZ’S CHARACTER — HONOR IN ORDINARY LIFE (v. 9)
“Jabez was more honorable than his brothers.”
Honor here suggests:
Integrity
Reverence for God
A life aligned with faith
God notices character, even in hidden places.
Application:
Before we pray for God to lift us higher, we must let Him deepen our character.

III. JABEZ’S PRAYER — A FAITH THAT ASKED BOLDLY (v. 10)
Jabez didn’t complain about his name — he prayed.
1. “Oh, that You would bless me”
Not selfish prosperity — but God’s favor, God’s presence, God’s purpose.
True blessing is what comes from God and leads back to God.
Pray: “Lord, give me what only You can give.”
2. “Enlarge my territory”
Expansion of responsibility, influence, usefulness or and even land, large tracts of land.
Not just more possessions — but greater capacity to serve.
Pray: “God, increase my effectiveness for Your kingdom.”
3. “Let Your hand be with me”
God’s hand represents guidance, strength, anointing, protection.
Jabez knew enlarged territory requires greater dependence.
Pray: “Lord, don’t promote me beyond Your presence.”
4. “Keep me from evil so it might not hurt me”
He asked for holiness and protection from sin’s traps.
He did not just want blessing — he wanted blessing without compromise.
Pray: “Guard my heart so success will not destroy me.”

IV. GOD’S RESPONSE — HEAVEN ANSWERS FAITH (v. 10)
“And God granted his request.”
God delights in faith-filled, kingdom-centered prayers.
Prayer is not a ritual — it is the doorway to transformation.
Key truth:
You may have come from pain — but by prayer, you can move into purpose.

CONCLUSION
Jabez started with sorrow — ended with blessing.
His story reminds us:
God can lift you beyond your beginnings.
Character prepares you for increase.
Prayer invites God into your limitations.
God still answers when His people cry out.

CALL TO RESPONSE / PRAYER
Pray in the spirit of Jabez:
“Lord, bless me according to Your will.”
