How to Become a Better Person
Our BBMI national director, Mrs Maxmillah Muhalia challenged us not to remain the same, but to intentionally become better people every day—better in character, relationships, spirituality, and the way we live.
1. Set healthy boundaries.
Do not allow people, friendships, peer pressure, or cultural practices to push you into sin or disrespect. Learn to say “No” and protect your relationship with Christ.
2. Ask for help.
Asking for help is not a sign of weakness; it is a sign of strength. We cannot do everything alone. Be humble enough to seek counsel, learn from others, and acknowledge when you need support.
3. Redefine success and stop comparing yourself with others.
Everyone has a different journey and starting point. Take your time to grow because slow, intentional growth becomes lasting growth. Do not destroy yourself trying to live someone else's lifestyle. Measure success by becoming better than you were yesterday.
4. Cultivate a healthy community.
As you grow, lift others. Become a mentor, encourager, prayer partner, and good example. Choose relationships that bring you closer to God rather than friendships that pull you back into “Egypt” when God is taking you toward “Canaan.”
5. Practice self-care and learn to love yourself.
Take care of yourself physically, emotionally, spiritually, and mentally. You matter too. Loving yourself is not selfishness. You cannot effectively love others while completely neglecting yourself.
6. Live according to your season.
Do not rush into another stage of life. If you are single, live faithfully as a single person. When married, embrace marriage. When children come, embrace parenthood. Every season has its purpose and lessons.
7. Become a person of prayer.
Hannah's story teaches us to take our pain and desires to God. Prayer makes us stronger and helps us become better people because we learn to depend on God rather than carrying everything alone.
8. Trust God in difficult seasons.
Even when life becomes very difficult, trust God. He can make a way where there seems to be no way. Difficult circumstances do not mean God has abandoned you.
Let people see Christ in you. Let your family, church, community, and even those who once looked down on you see the evidence of God's work in your life.
Your growth should not end with you. As God lifts you, lift others. As you become better, help someone else become better too.
May we live a changed life, trusting God, loving ourselves, choosing our relationships wisely, and becoming the people God can use to transform our families and communities.
