When the Holy Spirit gets into a life, the least one becomes significant, the least one takes on a new meaning. It is the wonder of the gospel, it is the wonder of salvation. It makes us whole. It is the wonder of what Christ does in a life. It lifts it right out of its insignificance and begins to make it something that matters, a man or a woman of presence.

Suffering is to dispose of a false state, a false condition, a false position, that has come in. Everything is false, you see; it is not what God intended. It was a lie, an untruth, a falsehood, that brought about all the vanity and the judgment. It is a false world, a false creation now. The suffering that the Lord brings into our lives has this one object - to dispose of that which is false in us, and to make way for that which is true in Christ, who is the Truth. We are not the truth, and this creation is not the truth, but Christ is the Truth, and the false has to be disposed of, removed, and it is only done by suffering.

Christ came, and In His coming, He fulfilled a work by which your destiny and purpose was recovered and secured. That is, in Christ incorruptible life is recovered and secured for you and me. Christ was a man who could not be corrupted, and because He could not be corrupted, corruption was kept out of the very stream of His life. It was not possible that He should see corruption even in the grave. "He Whom God raised up saw no corruption" (Acts 13:37) that is the statement of Scripture.
In Christ we are made alive, and the consciousness is, I am alive now. The most wonderful thing is: I know I am alive, but it is another kind of Life. It is God's Own Life. It is not just natural life, it is another Life that has come to me from God Himself. The point is that I have a consciousness, I am alive. I am alive with a new Life which I never had before. Blessed be God. . .

“I am the vine”—the whole of it. What does this mean? “Ye are the branches—part of the vine—and the life of the branch is the life of the vine.” In a sense the vine gives its life to the branch, but not as a separate thing. The branch is part of the vine, and the very life that courses through the branch and reproduces itself in fruit is the life of the vine. “To me to live is Christ.” His life it is, that sustains me. It is He Himself in me. I am His; He is mine. We are one by a solemn union, a union infinitely beyond anything that metaphor or figure can teach, one with each other, and by that fact of our oneness my life has been sustained. “To me to live is Christ.”
