“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He will lift you up in honor.”
‭‭1 Peter‬ ‭5‬:‭6‬ ‭NLT‬‬

In the book of 1 Samuel, we get to read of a story of the wives of Elkanah of which Hannah, one of the wives, had no children and was deeply troubled by her situation. She then offers a prayer to God for a male child who she vows will be given entirely to the works of God all his life.

God answers her prayer beyond her expectation that she ends up having not just one as she had prayed but five kids in total. It’s through her that Samuel who becomes a great priest, a mediator between the nation and God comes, It’s Samuel that anoints the kings of Israel Saul and David later on.

Hannah is an example of one who humbled herself, trusted God and placed God’s priorities above her own and she was lifted up by God. In 1 Peter, we are encouraged to cast all our cares upon Him for God is concerned about our lives, cares and troubles. He desires that our focus be on Him (submit to Him) and not on our troubles or anxieties.

Submission in humility to God ensures He takes care of us as we focus on His work.

YOU ARE THE CHURCH OF GOD

“For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, you are God’s building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

Last Sunday we did ground breaking for the new sanctuary that is to be built, this was led by the founding pst George Odero and lead pst Mary. We thank God for the vision He has placed in the hearts and minds of our leaders and for the growth that is to come.

This Sunday we did learn from the above verses about the origin of the church and that the foundation of the church is Jesus Christ. When Christ told Peter that “on this rock, I will build my church”, Peter wasn’t that rock but rather the rock was the revelation of who Jesus Christ is as Peter said “You are the Christ, Son of the living God”

The knowledge of Christ is then the basis or the foundation of the church. As the word describes it, we(believers) are now the church/temple of God and we are encouraged to build upon that foundation, that is, the work of ministry we do should be based on the same foundation. Note that what we build with thereafter matters because it will go unto test for a reward.

FOLLOWING GOD’S WILL

Luke 22:42

At this point, Jesus makes a prayer to God that He may not go through the way the cross if there was another way.

Even though the way of the cross appeared to burdensome and of hardship, Jesus still followed God’s will and went to die on the cross for mankind. (Hebrews 13:1 - He endured the cross)

This shows that there was/is no other way that we can be saved, unless it’s through Christ (John 14:6)

Just the same way Jesus was focused on following God’s will, God desires that we also follow His example.

RESULT
Since He was obedient to the Father’s will, He is highly exalted and given the name above every other name (Phil 2:8, Acts 4:12)

Following God guarantees us a reward in the present (living in Gods blessings) and in future (2 Tim 4:7-8 Crown of righteousnes
