LENTEN CAMPAIGN 2026 WEEK 1: LEADERSHIP AND INTEGRITY
This first week of Lent we reflect on the leadership and integrity. In making our choices of leaders, what are the qualities that we look for? Do we choose leaders that will lead in truth and honesty? Leadership is a God given gift that needs to be used well to promote His glory and honour and not our own glory. As leaders, we are reminded to be servants, to ensure honesty, transparency and accountability in all our dealings. We should be able to make decisions that benefit all, our actions should promote human dignity at all times.
We are reminded in today's readings( 1st Sunday of Lent) that we face temptations in our day to day lives but we should not give in to them just like Jesus in the wilderness who was able to say no to the temptations of Satan. We should say no to temptations of bribes, greediness, and corrupt dealings. May our choice of good leaders not be influenced by the amount of money they give or tribal affiliations but by the values they hold and what they can do to improve the lives of all. As we vote, we need to pray and choose leaders who are honest and want to serve everyone. May our reflection on leadership and integrity improve our choices that we make.
We pray for our elected leaders that they may guide the people they are called to serve to greatness.
We also pray that may our leaders be guided by the values of honesty, transparency and accountability in all their doings.
May God grant them the holy spirit to guide them in upholding integrity at all times.

The Archbishop officially launched the 2026 Lenten campaign by unveiling the banner containing the theme of the year.The launch included presentation of booklets to the invited guests, and other groups of the church. There were also awards to the best performed parishes and schools of the Archdiocese.

During a colourful celebration of holy mass presided over by More. Rev. Maurice Muhatia Makumba, and in attendance were the priests of the archdiocese of Kisumu, religious brothers and sisters, invited guests, CJPD commissioners from across the archdiocese, and Christians from parishes across the Archdiocese. In his homily, the Archbishop encouraged all Christians to take keen interest on the Lenten campaign theme and the topics by initiating the change we desire as a country and not just pointing fingers towards others. He reminded us that as we prepare for the elections in 2027, the reflection of the 2026 Lenten campaign should help us make wise choices in electing leaders of integrity to govern our country towards justice, peace and unity.

During the launch of the 2026 Lenten campaign in the archdiocese of Kisumu. An event that began with a peaceful procession from St. Clemense's Technical Training Institute-in Ugunja moving towards St. Joseph's the worker parish Ugunja. In attendance were the Director CJPD department archdiocese of Kisumu Rev. Fr. Francis Konyach, the Dean Rang'ala deanery Rev. Fr. Peter Omondi, The CJPD chaplain Rang'ala deanery Rev, Fr. Anthony Futah, the Christian from across the entire archdiocese, the deputy OCS Ugunja subcounty and other traffic police assisting with the traffic. The Archbishop blessed the procession at the entrance of the church.
