THE UNDENIABLE IMPACT OF WORDS

Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21).

The power of words is undeniable, as revealed by a ground-breaking experiment conducted by a renowned scientist many years ago. He demonstrated the profound effects of words on water. This scientist placed water in different jars and spoke distinct words to each jar.

To some, he spoke kind and loving words like, "You're wonderful; you're beautiful." These jars produced beautiful and harmonious crystal formations. To others, he spoke harsh and negative words like, "You're ugly, terrible, and good-for-nothing." Those ones formed disfigured and unattractive crystals.

This experiment reveals a significant lesson. Recall that the human body is over seventy per cent water, which accounts for more than two-thirds of its composition. Therefore, the words you speak to yourself and your body have a tangible effect. When you repeatedly use negative words, you deform the water crystals within you. Over time, this deformation can manifest as physical ailments. This is why you must be mindful of your speech, as the words you choose can either bring life or destruction to your own body.

Don’t make terrible comments like, "This job is killing me"; you might think it’s harmless, but such expressions wreak havoc on the water crystals in your body. After years of speaking such negative words, you may find yourself suffering from inexplicable health conditions.

Remember, death and life are in the power of the tongue (Proverbs 18:21). Your words hold creative power. Speak words of life, health and strength to yourself. The crystals in your body respond to words, and your speech has the potential to heal, transform and invigorate your physical being. Take this seriously.

PRAYER / CONFESSION

My speech aligns with God’s Word, bringing life, health, and peace to my body and mind. I speak words of faith, love and hope, and my body responds to these words, functioning perfectly to the glory of God, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

INSTRUMENTS OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
..but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God (Romans 6:13).

Romans 6:10-11 is the reality of your life in Christ. You’re dead to sin and alive unto God. You’re not under the dominion of sin or death. The old nature that was a slave to sin is dead—crucified with Christ—and now you live in the newness of life. You’re alive to righteousness, glory, and the Lordship of Jesus.

It helps us understand what the Bible says in Romans 6:12, “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.” This means you have authority over your body, over your thoughts, over everything that pertains to you. You’re no longer subject to failure, decay, or destruction.

You’ve come out of spiritual death into the realm of life— God’s life. When you touch things, they don’t deteriorate; they improve. Why? Because the righteousness of God fixes things; it carries life, success and glory; and you’re the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.

Think about it: the whole creation is in bo***ge because of corruption. Everything in the world has been subjected to decay and destruction: “For we know that he whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now” (Romans 8:22). But what is the creation waiting for? The preceding verse 19 tells us; it says, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.”

You’re the one to set creation free from the bo***ge of corruption. Everything connected to you—Your clothes, your cars, your home—is meant to reflect and be impacted by the life of God, because as read in our theme scripture, you’re an instrument of righteousness. This means wherever you go, things get better. Whoever encounters you is improved, because the righteousness of God functions through you.

You’re a carrier of life, restoration, and glory. You don’t just exist; you reign, you fix and renew things. Let this be your consciousness: you’re the manifestation of Christ’s righteousness. You function in His divine order and His divine power, bringing His glory everywhere.

PRAYER / CONFESSION

I’m an instrument of righteousness; I carry the life of God. His glory and wisdom are expressed in and through me. Everything associated with me reflects the righteousness of God. I bring deliverance, restoration, and life to creation. I reign in life as a mature son of God, manifesting His glory always, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THE INFLUENCE OF GODLY HERITAGE

And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children (Isaiah 54:13).

There’s a huge difference between those who honour the Lord and those who don’t, and this difference extends to their children. Let’s examine this from the Scriptures. Isaiah 49:25 says, “But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.”

What a commitment from God! He promises to fight for those who honour Him, contending with those who trouble them and saving their children. This promise is reinforced in Isaiah 54:13. It says, “And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.” This is God’s assurance: children of those who honour Him are taught by the Lord, and they experience great peace.

What about those who don’t know God? Psalm 58:3 reveals their plight: “The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.” The wicked are separated from God even before birth. From the womb, their lives are misdirected, growing up in deceit because they lack the truth of God’s Word.

If you’re reading this and you’re not born again, more so if you’re an offspring of unsaved parents, the Bible explains why your life might seem directionless, and spiritual things appear incomprehensible to you. You were estranged from God from birth, programmed to follow a path away from Him.

This isn’t something you can change by your efforts alone. You need the mercy and grace of God. Ask the Lord to come into your heart and give you a new life. You can do this right now by turning to the “Prayer Of Salvation” page; say that prayer, and mean the words from your heart, and you’d receive the life and nature of God.

For parents who are already in Christ, their children are spiritually impacted even from the womb. A child conceived by Spirit-filled parents carries the blessing of God’s Spirit before birth. This is the stark difference between those born to parents in Christ and those who aren’t.

PRAYER / CONFESSION

Dear heavenly Father, I pray for those who are yet to know you, or are estranged from you, that they receive your mercy and grace and come into the light of your glorious salvation, and walk in the truth. Thank you for the blessing of your Spirit, and the new life you give to all who call upon you for salvation, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THE FAITH-EXAMPLES OF JOSHUA AND CALEB

We having the same spirit of faith, according as it is written, I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak (2 Corinthians 4:13).

Numbers 13-14 recounts the story of the twelve spies sent by Moses to scout the land of Canaan, the Promised Land. They spent forty days exploring the land and brought back evidence of its abundance, including a large cluster of grapes. However, while Caleb and Joshua encouraged the Israelites to trust God and take possession of the land, the other ten spies described the land as dangerous and inhabited by giants.

The Israelites, overcome by fear and doubt, rebelled against Moses and Aaron, longing to return to Egypt. God's anger burned against their unbelief, and as a result, that generation, except Caleb and Joshua, didn’t enter the Promised Land. Despite Caleb and Joshua’s attempts to reassure them of God’s power, the people refused to believe.

Here’s what I want you to notice concerning what the Lord said about the report of these other 10 spies: “And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel...” (Numbers 13:32). It wasn’t Joshua or Moses who labelled their report as “evil”—it was the Lord Himself, because it contradicted His Word.

What was the evil report? God had declared that the Israelites would conquer the giants and take possession of the land flowing with milk and honey. But the ten spies said, “Even if it’s true that the land flows with milk and honey, we can’t take it.” They disregarded God’s assurance of victory and accused Moses of leading them into trouble.

In Numbers 13:32-33, they said, “...The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature. And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Learn from this. No evil report should come from you. Be like Joshua and Caleb. Our opening verse says we have the same spirit of faith; we believe and therefore speak in agreement with God’s Word.

What has the Word said about your health or prosperity? What has God said about your life and future? Affirm the same things in agreement with Him. Speak faith f illed words only, regardless of what your senses perceive. Hold fast to your confessions of faith, knowing that God’s Word is true and always prevails.

PRAYER / CONFESSION

Dear Father, thank you for the spirit of faith at work in me. I believe your Word, and I speak in agreement with it. I walk in health, prosperity and victory; I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Amen.

SHINE BRILLIANTLY LIKE THE FIRMAMENT

And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever (Daniel 12:3).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

Our theme verse isn't talking about every Christian; it is specifically referring to those who win souls, those who turn many to righteousness. These are the ones who shine like the brightness of the firmament. They minister like the heavens: Their voice, like the heavens, is being heard in every nation and in every language.

The Bible says, “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world...” (Psalm 19:1-4). You can’t shine like the brightness of the heavens if you don't function like the heavens.

Every Christian has a responsibility to take the Gospel to the ends of the earth, just like the Lord instructed in Matthew 28:19-20 and Mark 16:15. This is the way to shine as the brightness of the firmament. The Bible says, "...he that winneth souls is wise" (Proverbs 11:30).

As we actively participate in sending the Gospel across borders, in all languages, into the nations of the earth, we’re functioning like the heavens—declaring the glory of God to all. One day, the Lord Jesus Christ will return, and He will honour us for preaching the Gospel to every man, in every nation, in all known languages. Think about it. You’ve been given the privilege to shine brightly, not just for a moment, but forever and ever. Praise God forevermore!

Spread the Gospel beyond your borders. Rise to this call and get involved in this great work because the Lord’s return is imminent. Every day, do more for the spread of the Gospel. Together, let’s reach beyond our borders and regions. Let’s ensure that our voices echo like the heavens, declaring God's glory across the earth. This is our responsibility!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the privilege of being a bearer of your glorious Gospel. As I win souls and turn many to righteousness, I shine like the brightness of the heavens. Thank you for empowering me to declare your glory in every language, to every nation, as we anticipate with excitement your glorious return, when you honour us for this great work. Thank you for the grace to do more in spreading the Gospel to the ends of the earth, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

FAITH AND SACRIFICE

Who through faith subdued kingdoms, wrought righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions (Hebrews 11:33).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

In 1 Kings 3, we read about Solomon offering one thousand burnt offerings to God. As a result, God appeared to him that night and said, "...Ask what I shall give thee" (1 Kings 3:5). Solomon was only required to offer one burnt offering, but he went above and beyond, offering a thousand. As a result, he received divine attention.

Realizing the power of his offering, the next time he was to offer oblation to the Lord, he made it 22,000 burnt offerings. And once again, God responded by speaking to him and granting him promises. Also consider the example of Noah in Genesis 8. After the Flood, Noah’s first act was to build an altar and offer burnt offerings of every clean beast and bird. The Bible says, "And the LORD smelled a sweet savour..." and as a result, God made a promise: "...I will not again curse the ground any more for man's sake..." (Genesis 8:21).

Noah’s offering was like incense rising to heaven, a sweet-smelling aroma for which God released promises and blessings for Noah and his sons, giving them dominion over all the earth: "...Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth... into your hand are they delivered" (Genesis 9:1-2).

Similarly, the Lord Jesus obtained promises through His sacrificial death for us on the Cross. Following His obedience and vicarious sacrifice, the Bible says, "Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name" (Philippians 2:9). Jesus obtained dominion over all because He was obedient in offering Himself.

The Bible speaks of others who also obtained promises through their faith and actions as read in our opening scripture. The Greek word for promise in that verse is “epaggelia,” which means to get an announcement of something good that God has given you. This principle remains the same; you too can cause God to announce something good for you through your sacrificial offering, through the power of faith and the principle of sacrifice. It’s one of the reasons why giving to God is so important. You can be praying and He’ll say something to you in your spirit just as in the examples above. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for the power of faith and the principle of sacrifice. I walk in your grace today for answered prayers. My oblations of faith and righteousness rise as a sweet-smelling savour to you, and I walk in the fulfilment of your promises in my life. I live in dominion and walk in the victory of your Word, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

THE POWER IS IN HIS NAME

…In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover (Mark 16:17-18).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

When it comes to using the Name of Jesus, the power has nothing to do with your own ability, strength or how loud you shout! The demons have no choice; when you cast them out in the Name of Jesus, they know they’ve got to go. Ponder again some of the things listed in our opening scripture that the Lord said we can do in His Name: Cast out devils, take up serpents, unharmed by deadly poison, lay hands on the sick for them to recover.

This is absolutely transcendent. It lets you know the power in the Name of Jesus. His Name is an instrument of terror against devils, sickness, disease and infirmities. Peter understood this; that’s why in Acts 3, when he and John encountered a man who had been lame from birth, he used the Name of Jesus to effect a cure in the man’s impotent feet. When the man reached out for alms, Peter said, “...Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk” (Acts 3:6).

The miracle drew a crowd, and Peter took the opportunity to preach Jesus Christ, explaining that it was the Name of Jesus that made the man whole. What this man couldn't do for years, he did in a moment because of the power in the Name of Jesus. Even now, I say to you in the Name of Jesus, you’re loosed from any infirmity that might have held you bound.

What you haven't been able to do for years, you can do now in the Name of Jesus! Perhaps you have a child who has been unable to walk since birth, or maybe you've been held down by sickness or cancer; that child is healed now! And you’re free of that sickness in the Name of Jesus. Believe and activate these words in your situation, and they shall be so. Amen.

There’s power in that Name. That Name is the greatest Name in heaven, in hell, and in the universe! When you call that Name, all of heaven responds, Satan, hell and all demons tremble and bow to its authority. Call on that Name today with the understanding of its significance and power, and you’ll surely have a miracle.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for the power and authority in the Name of Jesus. In His Name, I walk in victory over sickness, lack and any form of oppression. I live in triumph, now and always because I recognize the greatness of that Name and use it with revelation. Amen.

THE DAYS OF THE GREATER GLORY

…Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain (James 5:7).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

The Lord Jesus referred to the Father as the husbandman, and we, the body of Christ, are the precious fruit of the earth that He waits for. The apostle James, in the theme verse, also tells us that the husbandman patiently waits until He receives the early and latter rain (James 5:7).

We understand that concerning Israel, the latter rain began on the Day of Pentecost. Peter confirmed this when he said, “…it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh...” (Acts 2:17). This was the beginning of the outpouring that had been prophesied to take place in the last days.

Hosea 6:3 gives us further insight into this promise: "Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the LORD: his going forth is prepared as the morning; and he shall come unto us as the rain, as the latter and former rain unto the earth." This rain, spoken of in Hosea, pertains to both Israel and the Church. For Israel, the latter rain came at Pentecost, marking the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the early Church.

However, within the Church, that outpouring on the Day of Pentecost was not the latter rain but the early rain. The early rain is the seed-time rain, the rain that comes after the Word of God has been sown, causing it to sprout and grow. Acts 2 marked the start of the Church with the descent of the Holy Spirit, the beginning of a new era for the Church.

The prophet Haggai also spoke of a greater glory to come: “The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former...” (Haggai 2:9). This means that even though the early rain was glorious, the latter rain, which we are now experiencing, will far exceed what we saw at the beginning. We are living in the days of that greater glory, where the Church will manifest even more of God's grace and power.

Peter, James and John lived in the last days concerning Israel, but we live in the last days concerning the Church. The latter rain for Israel is the early rain for the Church, and we’re living in the time of the fullness of that latter rain. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I rejoice in the knowledge that I’m a part of your precious fruit, nurtured by the early and latter rain. Thank you for the greater glory that is now manifest in the Church in these end times. I walk in the power and fullness of your Spirit today, impacting my world with the fruits and works of righteousness, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

SATAN DOESN’T KNOW EVERYTHING

But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, even the hidden wisdom, which God ordained before the world unto our glory: Which none of the princes of this world knew: for had they known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory (1 Corinthians 2:7-8).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

There’re those who think the devil has the ability to read human minds and know exactly what is going on in their thoughts. But that’s untrue! The devil cannot read the human mind any more than an intelligent person can guess what’s in your mind simply by observing your mannerisms, body movements and body language.

Satan is a created being and as such, he doesn’t have the power or omniscience of God. Satan doesn’t know everything. This limitation is evident in various instances throughout the Bible. For example, after Jesus was born, Herod, disturbed by the news of a new "King of the Jews" born in Bethlehem, secretly inquired from the Magi about the exact location of the child. After being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, the Magi went back to their country via another route.

Herod, feeling deceived, ordered the massacre of all male children from ages two and below in Bethlehem and its vicinity, hoping to kill the prophesied new king. That’s to show you that Satan’s knowledge is limited. Even today, he’s not privy to all that we know or all that God knows. His actions are based on his limited understanding rather than any ability to foresee the entirety of God's plan.

But thanks be unto God; the Bible says God has revealed these things to us by His Spirit: "...for the Spirit searches all things, yea, the deep things of God" (1 Corinthians 2:10). Satan doesn’t have access to these deep things; he isn’t privy to the intricate details of God’s plans for your life, unless they’re revealed by your own actions or speech. And guess what? He can’t stop the plans and blessings of God from coming to pass in your life, except with your cooperation of course.

That’s why it’s important to speak in tongues; as we do, we speak deep mysteries concerning God's plans, including those related to our lives. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 14:2 that no man understands what we’re saying when we speak in tongues; not even the devil. But God reveals these mysteries to us through the Holy Spirit.

PRAYER

Dear Father, I thank you for your omniscience and for the victory I have in Jesus Christ. I am grateful that you’re all knowing and that nothing escapes your understanding. I walk in your guidance and wisdom and rely on your perfect plan for my life, confident that you’re aware of all things and have given me dominion over Satan and the powers of darkness, in Jesus' Name. Amen.

FAITH AND WORSHIP

And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil (Matthew 15:22).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

In our last two studies, we reviewed two important mysteries about prayer: lifting up of our hands and praying in the night watches. There’s also another mystery about prayer that has to do with faith and worship. I’ll explain this with an intriguing story in the Bible.

In Matthew 15:22, we read about a woman of Canaan who cried out to Jesus for help. The situation was dire; her daughter was afflicted by a demon, and the physicians couldn't help. Despite her desperate plea, the Lord Jesus initially remained silent. Verse 23 says, “...he answered her not a word....” The Master’s silence didn’t deter the woman as she remained importunate.

The disciples, uncomfortable by the Master’s silence, urged Him to rather send the woman away because she was causing a disturbance. Finally, the Lord spoke, saying, “...I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 15:24). Undeterred, the woman decided to add worship to her faith-request; the Bible says she came and worshipped Jesus, saying, “...Lord, help me” (Matthew 15:25).

At that moment, the conversation shifted; Jesus then responded with a seemingly strong statement: “...It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs” (Matthew 15:26). Yet unmoved, the woman still expressed her faith saying, “...Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table” (Matthew 15:27). Her response was a demonstration of great faith and humility.

In verse 28, Jesus commended her; saying, “...O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt....” Her daughter was healed from that very hour. This story reveals a profound lesson: worship can be the key that unlocks divine responses when it seems like there’s silence from God. The woman’s persistent faith and worship led to her miracle.

Have you ever prayed and it seemed like you weren’t hearing anything from the Lord? You're wishing you could hear from God and it seems as though there’s no response? Do what the woman did. In faith, worship the Lord profusely and sincerely, and you’ll get a response. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I worship and adore you, the everlasting King of glory, the only wise and true God, gracious, holy, righteous, pure and kind. Yours, O Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the majesty and the splendour! You’re exalted as head over all, and I extol your majesty and praise you for your blessings and wondrous works in my life and in all the earth, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

PRAYER IN THE NIGHT WATCHES

Arise, cry out in the night: in the beginning of the watches pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children… (Lamentations 2:19).

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME Dsc. Dsc. DD.

Another mystery revealed to us in the Word is a secret about prayer that God's people need to understand. In Lamentations 2:19, we see a situation where the people needed deliverance for their children. Observe that the prophet didn’t just say "Cry out”; rather, he said, “Arise, cry out in the night....” There was a specificity; it had to be at night.

There’s something about praying in the night. Even though He didn’t say you should pray every night, there’re specific times when the Holy Spirit will lead you to pray in the night; that’s why walking with the Spirit is so important. Night here isn’t just 9 pm or 10 pm; it’s the wee hours of the morning, at the beginning of the watches, that’s after 12 midnight.

Notice what He tells you to do at that time of the night: “...pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord...” (Lamentations 2:19). This is no casual prayer; you pour out your heart before God. Then, what else? “Lift up thy hands toward Him for the life of thy young children.” Some parents have faced situations where a child had become wayward or errant, delinquent and unruly, ensnared by the devil. Don’t stand by helplessly, as if you can’t bring about a change in that child’s life; deal strongly in prayer and deliver your son or daughter.

Get up at midnight and pray! Use this secret of prayer that I’m sharing with you now. Lift up your hands and pray that child back into the will of God. Declare that he or she is turned away from the world’s influences, drawn to the Word, and inspired by the things of the Kingdom. Declare that Satan has nothing in your child and that henceforth, the visions of the Spirit will be kindled in the heart of that child, imbuing him or her with the boldness and courage to fulfil divine purpose with joy.

Perhaps it’s sickness or disease that has taken hold of that child; you must deliver that child in prayer. Pray this way and the Lord will intervene in the situation and restore the child to perfection. The instruction is for you to pour out your heart and lift up your hands toward God at night. This is how you take charge and bring deliverance to your children. Hallelujah!

PRAYER

Dear Father, I pray against every influence of darkness that seeks to capture the hearts of children and young people, including peer pressure, negative media and worldly ideologies. I declare that they’re walking in the light and rejecting every unfruitful work of evil as they walk in righteousness and fulfil their purpose in Christ, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
