The Desire of Ages, page 176: "Light is shining from the word of God, but man cannot see it because his eyes are blinded by self-love and pride. When the heart is emptied of self, the savior can abide there." As an independent point on this text, academic brilliance or high institutional standing can easily become a thick blindfold that prevents an educator from learning new truths; real growth requires us to approach the word of God every morning with the quiet humility of a first-grade student.
