BEAR EACH OTHER’S BURDENS

TODAY’S VERSE
“Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:2 (NASB)

TODAY’S THOUGHT
If I was asked to describe Christianity using only one word, I would choose the word, “love”. John tells us that God is love. It is His love that makes mercy and grace possible. Is it no wonder then, if we are really going to fulfill what Christ wants us to do, we must bear each other’s burdens? Bearing a burden means to take that burden on as if it was your own. We are called to help the wounded, love the hurting and to do whatever it takes to help those that are overburdened. If we don’t, who will? Who else is called to do this? It is this love of Christ, lived out by us in community, that is the mark of true Christianity. And if community is going to work, then each of us must prefer others to ourselves. We must put the needs of others above ourself. Jesus set the example. His whole life exemplified sacrificial love. So must ours. Today, ask God to help you sense when someone needs help. Ask Him to help you bear their burden.

TODAY’S PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I am so grateful that You have borne every one of my burdens. Give me a heart like Yours and the filling of Your Spirit so I might love in the way You have loved me. Be glorified.

I help others with their burdens
Imagine yourself as the Good Samaritan. You are walking down the road and come to someone in desperate need. Sense his pain. Feel empathy and God’s love deep in your heart. Visualize God assisting you in helping the person. Sense God’s pleasure. Affirm, “I help others with their burdens.”

*THE SEVEN BOWLS*

(Read Revelation 15:3-8)
_"After these things I looked, and the temple of the tabernacle of testimony in heaven was opened, and the seven angels who had the seven plagues came out of the temple, clothed in linen, clean and bright, and their chests wrapped with golden sashes. And one of the four living creatures gave the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever." (Revelation 15:5‭-‬7)_

We fail in our worship when instead of putting our eyes on Jesus and celebrate Him for His works and promises, we put our eyes on the storms of life. We will never enjoy God's presence when we are carrying our baggages of life. Like these new arrivals in heaven, we must remove the focus from us and our hardship experiences and worship God as a loving response and with holy reverence. These martyrs never mentioned about any of the sacrifices or efforts on their part during tribulation. Their song is about the glorification of God. While God reveals Himself, He rarely explains Himself. We should therefore not live on expectations but on the promises of God.

We began the chapter with seven angels having the seven bowls. As John is focusing on the magnificent vision of worship, suddenly his attention is drawn to the Holy of Holies in heaven being opened. You can recall that the Holy of Holies was only accessible to the high priest only on the day of atonement. John had witnessed Jesus death and the temple curtain being split. We see the corresponding result of the open temple in heaven.

The wrath of God is as pure as His judgement. The seven angels emerge from the heavenly temple. These seven angels are clothed in garments of pure linen and have gold bands across their chests. This reminds us of the clothes worn by the Old Testament priest as they carried out their temple ministry. One of the cherub angels gives the seven angels seven golden bowls full of the wrath of God.

After the angels receive the bowls, the temple is filled with smoke, symbolizing God's presence. After completion of the tabernacle in Exodus, God's presence filled in so that Moses could not go inside. The episode in chapter 15 ushers us into the tribulation contained by these seven bowl judgements.

HIS LOVE AND GRACE ARE AMAZING

Titus 3:5 (NKJV) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit.

Works, works, works! So many are caught up in works, but God is caught up in relationship. Now I am not saying works are bad. In fact, we will be rewarded for the works that we do here on the earth. But too many churches preach that the only way to please God is to do works.

This verse shows us that we are saved by His mercies, and that it is a work of the Holy Spirit. It says in Ephesians 2:8-9, ”For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.” You see, salvation is a free gift. It is God saying man cannot save himself, so He will give Himself for us.

What amazing love the Father has for us! He knew we could not do it, so He did it for us. When we work for God, let us not let our love for Him be because of works, but because we love Him so much that we want to help as many people get to know Him as possible. The Father loves us all, and He desires that none perish, but that all be saved. So when I work for the kingdom, I work with this mindset.

I want to be a vessel that can be used by the Father for the needs of others. I want my life to be one that reaches to the farthest places in my prayers, or in my giving. But in doing this, I need to do it for love and not to earn points with God. I am saved today because of this great love that God had for me, and I did not deserve it or earn it. It was His work and I receive it freely, and now I want to give it to as many as possible!

CONFESSION: I am saved today by God’s great love for me. I could not earn it, and I sure did not deserve it, yet God, in His great love, gave it to me. Thank You Father for this amazing love that You have given to me!
