*HOW CHURCH MEMBERS SHOULD TREAT THEIR PASTORS*

How a church member should treat his or her pastor is very important because the way we treat spiritual leadership affects the health of the church and our own spiritual growth.

Here are biblical ways a church member should treat their pastor:

1. With Honor and Respect
1 Timothy 5:17 – “Let the elders that rule well be counted worthy of double honour…”
A pastor deserves honor, not because he is perfect, but because of the office he occupies.
Avoid insults, mockery, or careless familiarity.

2. With Prayer Support
Pastors face spiritual battles members may never see.
Hebrews 13:18 – “Pray for us…”
1 Thessalonians 5:25 – “Brethren, pray for us.”
Instead of criticizing your pastor, pray for his strength, wisdom, health, and family.

3. With Obedience to Godly Leadership
Hebrews 13:17 – “Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves…”
If the pastor is leading according to Scripture, members should cooperate and support the vision.

4. With Financial and Practical Support
Galatians 6:6 – “Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.”
Support your pastor materially and practically so he can focus on ministry.

5. Avoid Gossip and False Accusations
1 Timothy 5:19 – “Against an elder receive not an accusation, but before two or three witnesses.”
Do not entertain rumors. Protect your church from division.

6. Show Appreciation
A simple “Thank you, Pastor” goes a long way. Encourage him when sermons bless you.
1 Thessalonians 5:12–13 – “…esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.”

7. Support the Vision of the Church
Every pastor carries a God-given vision. A loyal member works to build, not compete.
Psalm 133:1 – “Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!”

8. Correct Him Properly If Necessary
Pastors are human. If there is a genuine concern:
Speak respectfully
Follow biblical order (Matthew 18:15)

How to Pray for One Hour (Step-by-Step)
1. Praise & Thanksgiving - 10 minutes
Begin by honoring God for who He is.
• Thank Him for life, salvation, protection, family, provision.
• Call His names: Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah
• Shalom, Faithful God.Use Psalms if words fail (Psalm 103,
Psalm 100).
- This shifts your heart into God's presence.
2. Worship - 10 minutes
Now move from thanking God to loving Him.
• Sing worship songs (softly or aloud).
Tell God how much you love Him.
Focus on His character, not your
problems.
- Worship invites God's presence deeper.

3. Repentance & Heart Cleansing - 5 minutes
Ask the Holy Spirit to search your heart.
• Confess sins (known and unknown).
Release bitterness, anger, pride, fear.
Receive God's mercy and forgiveness.
A clean heart gives you confidence before
God.
4. Pray the Word (Scriptures) - 10 minutes
Use Bible verses as prayer points.
• Pray God's promises over your life.
• Example:
• "Lord, Your Word says You will perfect all that concerns me."
• "I declare Psalm 91 over my family."
• God responds powerfully to His Word.
5. Personal Requests & Supplication - 10
minutes
Bring your needs before God.
Pray for your spiritual growth.
• Pray for family, marriage, health, finances, career.
• Be specific. God loves details.

• Cast all your burdens on Him.
6. Intercession for Others - 10 minutes
Stand in the gap for people.
• Pray for your nation, leaders, church.
• Pray for friends, the lost, the sick.
• Pray for God's will to be done.
• Intercession matures your spiritual life.
7. Silence & Listening - 5 minutes
Be still before God.
No talking—just listening.
• Write down impressions or scriptures that come.
• Let God minister to you.
Prayer is a conversation, not a monologue.

The above scripture explains what most Pastors go through in ministry.

On the outside, there is fighting; on the inside, there are fears.

Most times, all the People see on the Pulpit is a Pastor who has everything working for him.

We see the GAINS but we don't see their PAINS.

No one seems to see his Pains and Perils.

Most pastors are BLEEDING AND LEADING AT THE SAME TIME.

But behind his Designer's DRESS, sometimes a DEPRESSED Person is standing for you.

Most times, a Pastor will have to preach with a sick body, not as a result of zeal, but a genuine love for God and the People of God.

There are times a Pastor will have to go and deposit a dead Family Member in the mortuary and still rush to the Sanctuary to bless God’s People. I have done that on 2 occasions. Only a few can manage such an experience.

You can imagine the pain of such an emotional switch.

Sometimes it may even be that his wife is very sick on admission in the hospital, and you ask him after service Where is Mummy?...because you did not see her in church, he tells you Mummy is fine. Because he can't tell you Mummy is in the hospital, battling for life.
Oh what a difficult life to live.

Everyone in the church comes to him with their problems, but he can't tell anyone his own problems within the church, because not everyone can really know his problems and still believe him as their Pastor. Most members are not mature enough for that.

There are days he will Fast, Pray, Study, and Prepare very well, yet he will come to church and see the chairs empty.

No one is touched, but he is completely depressed wondering what has gone wrong. What has he not done?

Sometimes, the sa
