What Christ finished at the cross can only be made know to a fallen man through the Holy spirit. From convicting a sinner upon hearing the gospel to regenerating him once he receive it by faith. From teaching him and illuminating scripture for him to comforting him in this dark world. From anointing him for service to preserving him and to one day presenting him to the father blameless.
There is no church without the Holy spirit just like there can never be life without breathing oxygen.

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
