UDA LEADERSHIP SHOULD ACCEPT THE FACT THAT THE KIKUYU ARE NOT TRIBAL BUT INDEPENDENT-MINDED.
THEY DO NOT HATE RUTO THATS WHY THEY OVERWHELMINGLY VOTED FOR RUTO DESPITE HIM NOT BEING A KIKUYU AND EVEN IGNORED UHURU KENYATTA’S ADVICE.
The political relationship between the Kikuyu community and President William Ruto during the 2022 General Election was built on trust, political conviction, and shared interests — not political debt or blind loyalty.
In 2022, a large majority of Mt. Kenya voters overwhelmingly backed William Ruto despite fully knowing that he was not from the Kikuyu community. The region made an independent political choice based on what voters believed was the best direction for the country and their economic future. What made the moment even more significant is that many voters openly went against the political position of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who had publicly supported a different political arrangement.
Despite his influence as a sitting Head of State and a respected regional figure, the electorate still made its own decision at the ballot box.
This demonstrated that the Kikuyu electorate is independent-minded, politically strategic, and cannot be directed through ethnic identity, elite endorsements, or political pressure.
THE KIKUYU COMMUNITY HAS A HISTORY OF STRATEGIC AND ISSUE-BASED VOTING.
Mt. Kenya politics has historically been shaped by strategy, economic interests, leadership evaluation, and national direction rather than blind tribal loyalty. The region has repeatedly demonstrated that it can shift political positions depending on prevailing national circumstances. Voters often evaluate leadership through economic management, business environment, stability, and development priorities rather than ethnic considerations alone.
MT. KENYA IS NOT CONTROLLED BY UHURU OR GACHAHUA, IT MAKES INDEPENDENT POLITICAL DECISIONS.
Mt. Kenya voters consistently demonstrate political independence. Their decisions are decentralized, voter-driven, and shaped by lived realities rather than elite instruction. It is therefore misleading to assume that any individual leader has control or decisive influence over the political direction of the region.
Former President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua do not determine the political direction of Mt. Kenya or its youth. The region makes its own choices collectively based on economic conditions, governance performance, and public sentiment. Even during the Gen Z protests, Gachagua was part of the government leadership structure, and the demonstrations themselves reflected broader economic dissatisfaction rather than loyalty to any political figure.
MT. KENYA YOUTH ARE INDEPENDENT-MINDED AND MUST AVOID POLITICAL MANIPULATION.
Mt. Kenya youth are politically aware, independent-minded, and increasingly issue-driven. Their decisions are shaped by economic survival, employment opportunities, taxation, and governance performance rather than ethnic loyalty or political instruction.
They must also be cautious not to be used by politicians to advance personal or factional interests through demonstrations, unrest, or instability. While peaceful protest remains a constitutional right, it should never be manipulated into chaos or anarchy for political gain.
Their strength lies in constructive engagement, innovation, and democratic participation rather than being turned into instruments of political pressure or destruction.
THE RUTO WAVE WAS A GRASSROOTS MOVEMENT.
The 2022 political shift in Mt. Kenya was largely driven by ordinary wananchi — traders, farmers, boda boda operators, youth groups, and small businesses — who felt economically squeezed and politically ignored. By the time regional political actors became prominent, the pro-Ruto wave had already taken root at the grassroots level.
THE REJECTION OF UHURU’S POLITICAL DIRECTION WAS A TURNING POINT.
A defining moment in 2022 was the decision by many Mt. Kenya voters to reject the political direction of former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Many wananchi felt disconnected from the political arrangement being promoted at the time and instead aligned themselves with William Ruto’s bottom-up economic message and promise of inclusion.
THE MURKOMEN AND OMAR HASSAN DEBATE ON ETHNIC RHETORIC.
Political discourse involving Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan has at times attracted public debate over remarks interpreted by critics as ethnically sensitive. While supporters argue the leaders were emphasizing national unity and warning against division, critics view such rhetoric as politically risky in a diverse country like Kenya. The debate underscores the importance of responsible communication by senior leaders in a politically sensitive environment.
ECONOMIC PRESSURES DRIVING PUBLIC FRUSTRATION.
The dissatisfaction observed in parts of Mt. Kenya has largely been driven by economic realities affecting households, including:
1. High cost of living.
2. Increased taxation.
3. Rising fuel prices
4. Business pressures
5. Youth unemployment.
6. Reduced disposable income
7. Pressure on farmers and SMEs.
These concerns are policy-driven and reflect economic strain rather than ethnic political breakdown.
MT. KENYA CAN STILL SUPPORT RUTO IF RESPECT AND TRUST ARE MAINTAINED.
Despite current political tensions, Mt. Kenya remains a decisive and politically strategic region that can still support President William Ruto if trust, respect, and meaningful engagement are maintained.
However, reckless remarks, political arrogance, and entitlement narratives from sections of leadership risk undermining long-term political goodwill. At the same time, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki must be accorded full institutional respect, and leadership communication must remain disciplined and issue-based to preserve national cohesion.
POLITICAL SUPPORT IS NEVER PERMANENT.
Voter loyalty in Kenya is not guaranteed. It is earned through trust, performance, and responsiveness to citizen concerns. Communities support leaders based on expectations and delivery, and when these are not met, political alignment can change rapidly.
THE BALLOT BOX REMAINS THE FINAL JUDGE.
Ultimately, leadership in Kenya is determined by citizens through democratic elections. The 2022 General Election proved that Mt. Kenya voters are independent-minded, politically strategic, and issue-driven. Their support for William Ruto was based on conviction and economic expectations — not ethnic obligation, external control, or permanent loyalty structures.
