_Sabbath School Summary_
*Waiting in the Crucible*
_Lesson 11_
_Memory Text: Galatians 5:22_
*SABBATH*: Waiting is a difficult posture to learn. But good things come to those who patiently wait. In a social experiment, a scientist told kids that each could have a foamy candy (marshmallows) but they’ll have two of it if they waited for the scientist to return from an errand. Some of the kids ate the candy as soon as the scientist left. It was seen that those who waited did well in life the most. Be patient!
*SUNDAY*: In Hebrew texts, to wait is “to be much pained”, “to shake”, “to tremble”, “to be wounded”, or “to be sorrowful.” Innately, we’re impatient about things we desire or have been promised. That’s why we lose trust in God when things are not going our way. The ability to be patient can be a crucible. We’re to focus on God in waiting (Rom. 15:4, 5, 5:3-5, Ps. 27:14, 37:7). God will do the best for us!
*MONDAY*: God is never late or too early. He’s always on time. At His appointed time, all prophecies & promises are fulfilled (Rom. 5:6, Gal. 4:4). God’s time is not our time. We should learn to live by His time. His time is always the best. Why did Jesus wait for a long time before His first coming & why has He waited for a long time before His second coming? Waiting can build & nurture us (Dan. 9:24-27).
*TUESDAY*: David was anointed to be king but it took a long time from the fields before he mounted his throne. At a point, he became the “wanted.” No doubt that he felt he was in the crucible at times. He was a music boy at the palace; a giant slayer; went into hiding & faced many tests before his reign. David even refused to kill Saul to ascend the throne (1 Sam. 16:1-13; 17; 23:17: 24:5-7, 20; 26:1-25).
*WEDNESDAY*: Though it be for months or years, wait on God. To rush is to crush. Many have found themselves in wrong places due to rushing. Elijah who called for fire out of heaven rushed to hide when threatened (1 Kings 19:1-9). Anger, ambition, passion, lack of faith, or “bad” zeal can make us rush (Gen. 16:1-3; Num. 20:10-12; Acts 9:1, Luke 9:52-56, Matt. 20:20, Judg. 14:1-3). We need to trust in God!
*THURSDAY*: To take delight in the Lord is to live in a state of perfect trust in God. When in the crucible, we need to trust that the battle is the Lord’s (Ps. 37:1-11). David tells us to trust God; “to take delight in the Lord.” We don’t need to get upset or try to fight for ourselves when people work against us. God is in charge of all our lives’ affairs. No sorrow is able to fade the smile or ruffle the peace of God’s saints.
*FRIDAY*: In the school of Christ we learn patience. Many are the gifts He has in store for us. All we need is implicit trust in God. We need to focus on God while waiting to claim all the promises in store for us. While patience can feel like a crucible, its fruit is sweet. Those who have the best in life are those who in faith wait on God. We can lose much if we rush ahead of God. He sees all trials (1 Tim. 1:12).

*Discussion Questions*
📌 What does it mean that Jesus “weighs and measures” every trial? How can knowing this help us while we wait?
📌 Ask people in class to give personal testimonies as to what patient waiting is all about. What were their fears, their joys? How did they cope? What did they learn? What promises did they cling to?
📌 What can you do as a church or a class to help others who are in the crucible as they await God’s timing for something?
📌 What is the role of prayer in the development of patience? Are there others you can pray for so that the Spirit will develop patience in their lives?
