The occasion provided an opportunity to reflect on the Diocese's remarkable contribution to education over the past five decades. From its humble beginnings as a Prefecture in 1959, when only a handful of educational institutions existed under its care. The Catholic Diocese of Ngong now oversees hundreds of schools and educational institutions spread across its jurisdiction Narok and Kajiado Counties.
Addressing the gathering, Bishop John Oballa reiterated the Diocese's unwavering commitment to providing quality education to all children within its jurisdiction. Emphasizing on the fundamental right of every child to education, regardless of race, religion, ethnicity, social status, or age. Despite significant progress in expanding access to education, He expressed his concern over the continued challenge of school dropout rates affecting many children.
โNo child should be left behind! It saddens me, that a large number of children continue to miss out on schooling due to unchecked dropping out. I urge every one of our stakeholders to commit to ensuring that every child participates actively in formal education.โ
The bishop acknowledged the invaluable support of organizations working to improve educational outcomes for vulnerable learners. He recognized the National Council for Nomadic Education in Kenya (NACONEK) for its school feeding program and other interventions aimed at supporting out-of-school children. The initiative by NAKONEK have been instrumental in increasing school attendance and retention among learners from disadvantaged backgrounds.
He also recognized Campaign for Female Education (CAMFED), Kenya Education Fund, Maasai Girls Education Fund, and the Kajiado County Bursary Program for their sustained support in financing education for needy students.
The celebrations underscored the critical role of Catholic schools in moral and spiritual formation. At a time when society continues to grapple with challenges of moral decadence,
The bishop directed that all Catholic schools shall continue to be centers and beacons of Moral and Religious Education for all learners. โOur schools shall remain breeding grounds for integrity and diligence among all staff and learners.โ
The Diocesan Education Secretary Fr. Paul Ngeno expressed his gratitude to the various education stakeholdersโ partners and sponsors for their contributions towards development of education in the diocese. He asked them to continue working together to create opportunities for every child and to build a future where education remains a source of hope and transformation. The occasion was held just a week after a similar occasion was held at St. Mary's Girls Secondary School, Narok.
