Kwa wingi wa siku, nitamridhisha;

SHANGILIO LA INJILI
TAZAMA UFUNUO 1:5ab

K. Aleluya. W. Aleluya.

Nao wakamk**ata, wakampiga, wakamrudisha mikono mitupu. Akamtuma mtumishi mwingine aende kwao. Naye wakampiga kichwani, wakamtukana vibaya. Akamtuma mwingine, naye wakamwua. Na vivyo hivyo tena wengi; wengine wao waliwapiga, na wengine waliwaua. Alibaki bado mmoja, ndiye mwana wake mpendwa. Mwisho alimtuma huyo aende kwao akisema, "Watamjali mwanangu." Basi, wakamwacha, wakaenda zao.

Pope at Angelus: We find our home in the Trinity

On the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, Pope Leo reminds the pilgrims gathered for the Angelus prayer that the life of the Triune God “gives peace to our heart, which is often very restless.”
By Kielce Gussie

Celebrating the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, Pope Leo XIV joined thousands in St. Peter’s Square for his weekly Angelus prayer and greeting. Reflecting on the Mystery of the Triune God, he explained gives us a chance to look back at our own journey, beginning with God’s life given to us in Jesus.

This life, the Pope said, “is a dynamic, inexhaustible and faith communion that draw us in.” The Holy Spirit, who brings together the Father and the Son, has been placed on our hearts. Through this, he continued, the Church “becomes a sacrament of communion, a place of encounter, love and life where heaven and earth already touch.”

The truth of the day

Reflecting on the Gospel of the day, Pope Leo turned to the person of Nicodemus, who was deeply drawn to Jesus. Despite his eagerness to get to know and understand who Jesus was, Nicodemus sought him out at night to avoid being seen.

Jesus, however, welcomed Nicodemus and surprised him with an answer: that even an adult can be reborn. Nicodemus learned that God could transform his life.

As Jesus spoke about the Holy Spirit, Nicodemus’ “interior darkness was illuminated with the truth—the same truth that resounds throughout the Church in our celebration of today’s feast.” This is the truth that “God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life” (vs. 16) and that “God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (vs. 17).

We are all made for communion
Pope Leo explained that in the mystery of the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit—“we are at home” like Nicodemus was in Jesus’ presence. The life of God is captivating. “It gives peace to our heart, which is often very restless, and it allows us to encounter our brothers and sisters in the joy of the Spirit.”

The Trinity helps us to love everyone and everything because through it, we understand that every created thing is made for relationship, communion, and encounter. Yet, on the other hand, we learn why polarization, a dislike of diversity, and division lead to sadness, destruction, and an emptiness in the world.
When Nicodemus, a member of the Sanhedrin (council of the high priests of Israel), heard any hateful words against Jesus, he would challenge everyone to listen before condemning him. Nicodemus has received the Spirit of communion, which opens hearts to new truths and to true renewal.

“Whoever does not welcome this Spirit grows old quickly, in sorrow, feeling all alone and without joy in their hearts,” Pope Leo shared.

Today, the Pope continued, is a day of celebration because God’s feast is ours as well. With the Angelus prayer, he urged everyone to be like Mary and say “yes” to God’s will. “May our ‘yes’ to the love of the Most Holy Trinity also bear fruit.”

How Bishops Are Chosen in the Catholic Church?

The appointment of a bishop is one of the most important responsibilities entrusted to the Holy Father. Bishops are the successors of the Apostles and are called to shepherd the People of God, teach the faith, celebrate the sacraments, and govern the dioceses entrusted to their care.

Contrary to a common misconception, Catholic bishops are not elected by popular vote. Rather, they are appointed by the Pope through a careful and prayerful process that seeks to identify priests who possess the spiritual, pastoral, and leadership qualities necessary for episcopal ministry.

When a diocese becomes vacant due to retirement, transfer, resignation, or the death of a bishop, the Apostolic Nuncio the Pope's representative in a country begins a period of consultation. Bishops, priests, religious, and selected lay faithful may be discreetly consulted regarding suitable candidates.

After gathering information, the Apostolic Nuncio prepares a shortlist of candidates, known as a terna, and forwards it to the Dicastery for Bishops in Rome. The Dicastery studies the candidates' qualifications, pastoral experience, doctrinal soundness, and personal character before making recommendations to the Holy Father.

The Pope then reviews the recommendations and makes the final decision. Once he has chosen a candidate and the candidate has accepted the appointment, the Holy See publicly announces the new bishop.

To be considered for the episcopacy, a priest should generally be at least 35 years old, have been ordained for at least five years, possess strong faith and moral integrity, and have demonstrated pastoral wisdom and leadership. Advanced studies in theology, Sacred Scripture, or canon law are also normally expected.

Through this process, the Church seeks to ensure that bishops are chosen not for popularity or political influence, but for their fidelity to Christ and their ability to serve God's people as shepherds after the heart of Jesus.

READINGS FOR THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY, SUNDAY, YEAR A, MAY 31, 2026
LITURGICAL COLOUR: WHITE 🤍

FIRST READING

“The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious.”

A reading from the Book of Exodus (Exodus 34:4b—6, 8—9)

In those days: Moses rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as the Lord had commanded him, and took in his hand two tables of stone. And the Lord descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord. The Lord passed before him, and proclaimed, “The Lord, the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.” And Moses made haste to bow his head towards the earth, and worshipped. And he said, “If now I have found favour in your sight, O Lord, let the Lord, I beg you, go in the midst of us, although it is a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.”

THE WORD OF THE LORD... THANKS BE TO GOD

RESPONSORIAL PSALM
DANIEL 3:29—30, 31, 33, 32, 34 (R. cf. 29b)

R/. You are to be praised and highly exalted forever.

Blessed are you, O Lord, God of our fathers,
And to be praised and highly exalted forever;
And blessed is your glorious, holy name,
And to be highly praised and highly exalted forever. R/.

Blessed are you in the temple of your holy glory
And to be extolled and highly glorified forever. R/.

R/. You are to be praised and highly exalted forever.

Blessed are you upon the throne of your kingdom,
And to be extolled and highly exalted forever. R/.

Blessed are you, who sit upon cherubim and look upon the deeps,
And to be praised and highly exalted forever. R/.

Blessed are you in the firmament of heaven,
And to be sung and glorified forever. R/.

SECOND READING

“The grace. Of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.”

A reading from the second Letter of Saint Paul to the Corinthians (2 Corinthians 13:11—13)

Brethren, rejoice. Mend your ways, heed my appeal, agree with one another, live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you. Greet one another with a holy kiss. All the saints greet you, The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

THE WORD OF THE LORD... THANKS BE TO GOD

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Cf. REVELATION 1:8

Alleluia. Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: to God who is, who was, and who is to come. Alleluia

GOSPEL READING

“God sent his Son that the world might be saved through him.”

† A reading from the holy Gospel according to John (John 3:16—18)

God so loved the world that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him. He who believes in him is not condemned; he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only-begotten Son of God.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD... PRAISE TO YOU LORD JESUS CHRIST

The mystery of Holy Trinity

Tomorrow, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity, the mystery at the very heart of the Christian faith and life. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that the mystery of the Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life, the mystery of God in Himself, from which all other mysteries of faith flow.

We profess our belief in one God who exists eternally as three distinct Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. The Father is the Creator of all things, the Son is our Redeemer who became man for our salvation, and the Holy Spirit is the Lord and Giver of Life who sanctifies and guides the Church. Though distinct in Person, they are one in nature, equal in majesty, and united in perfect love.

The mystery of the Holy Trinity is not merely a doctrine to be understood but a divine reality into which we are invited. Through Baptism, we are welcomed into the life of the Trinity and are called to live in communion with God and with one another. Every sign of the Cross, every Mass, and every sacrament reminds us that our lives begin and end in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit.

As we celebrate Trinity Sunday, let us give thanks for the boundless love of the Triune God and strive to reflect that love in our families, communities, and the Church. May the Father bless us, the Son save us, and the Holy Spirit guide us always.
Holy Trinity, One God, have mercy on us.

30/05/2026

Uganda’s Catholic Bishops have announced that the national celebration of Uganda Martyrs’ Day at the Namugongo Shrine will not take place this year, citing concerns over the escalating Ebola outbreak linked to neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

In a Tuesday, May 26 statement, members of the Uganda Episcopal Conference (UEC) confirmed that the June 3 national pilgrimage at Namugongo in the Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala, which had earlier been postponed, has now been cancelled.

“We wish to inform the Catholic faithful and all stakeholders that the national Uganda Martyrs Day celebrations at Namugongo Catholic Shrine will not take place this year,” the Bishops say in the statement signed by their Chairman, Bishop Joseph Antony Zziwa of the Catholic Diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana.

The Catholic Bishops say that this year’s commemoration would instead take place in “local churches” across the East African nation.

“In the meantime, this year’s commemoration of the Uganda Martyrs shall be held at local churches under the guidance of the respective Diocesan Bishops and in consultation with the relevant Government authorities,” they say.
