The Catholic Justice and Peace Department - Diocese of Kakamega was involved in a research interview study. Taking part in the interview was Vincent Sh*tsama, Environment Project Officer at the Catholic Justice and Peace Department. The interview was conducted by Albert Otieno, Research Assistant to Aineah Omondi, a postgraduate fellow with the GRÓ Land Restoration Training Programme (GRÓ LRT) in Iceland under UNESCO. The discussion focused on the socio-economic barriers to ecological restoration in the Maragoli Hills Forest. Insights shared will contribute to a policy brief aimed at shaping stronger restoration strategies in Vihiga County and across Kenya. This collaboration underscores the vital role of faith-based organizations, community leadership, and research partnerships in driving sustainable environmental change. Together, we are building a future where restoring nature means restoring livelihoods.

The deliberations were centred on a collaborative framework between the two institutions on the environmental front. The department remains open to partnerships, which align with the social teachings of the church and advance her mandate on social concerns. CJPD Kakamega continues to reassert its position as a leading agency on environmental peacebuilding, restoration, and governance both within and around the region.
