How beautiful is the marriage of two Christians, who are one in hope, one in desire, one in the way of life practice. Nothing divides them either in flesh or spirit.

Sermon:
Loving God
Mark12:29-31, Deut 6:4-9

Intro
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

Familiar words? Hopefully!

Hear them again – “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.”

For those of us who have been around the church for a while I’m guessing we will have heard those words many times.

But what do they mean? – to love God? If I asked you now if you love God – what would you say? How do you gauge something like that?

What does love for God look like – feel like – how does it show itself? What does it look like if we don’t love God? Why do we sometimes find it hard to love God?

You would think that we should we able to answer those questions fairly easily – but I’m not sure that that’s the case.

When Jesus spoke those words he had been asked by a Pharisee what the most important commandment was – Jesus says ‘its to love God with everything in you’ – and the second is like it – ‘to love your neighbour as yourself.’ The Pharisee says well done Rabbi – gives him a pat on the back!

This morning I want us to think for a while about what it means to love God – what Jesus called the most important commandment, then next week we’ll look at the second half of that command – to love one another and then the following week at LBC together we’ll be looking at another loving the world like God does. We’ll look at the other command Jesus left us with to go and make disciples of all nations and how that works out for us here at LBC.

Loving God, loving one another and loving the world. It’s a short description of what God wants his church to do and what he hopes for us as individuals. That we will love him, that we will love another and that we will love the people who don’t know him.

Our vision says we “personally help unchurched people become passionate followers of Jesus Christ.” I’m guessing that its fair to think that passionate followers will be serious God lovers.

So – Do you love God?…

Is that a more challenging question than it first appears? It has been for me over the last few months.

I’ve known for the last three months or so what I was going to be speaking on today and for the next two weeks which has given time to reflect on it – and quite honestly it has been a disturbing question for me. Do I love God?

I hope today to ask you some of the same difficult questions that I feel God has been asking me over the last month or so. Questions that have disturbed me – questions that have shown up my blind spots and failures, but questions that as I seek to answer them and as we seek to answer them, will I believe light the path to a newer, freer, richer more authentic relationship with God.

Still more..to come (you can ask me here)

Topic: Everything Is Possible
Text: Mark 9:23 “Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Introduction: To live like Jesus, you have to live with possibility.

Body:
This is the faith factor of living: You see the possibilities in life because you have faith. The Bible says, “The just shall live by faith,” “Without faith it is impossible to please God,” “Whatever is not of faith is sin,” “According to your faith it will be done unto you.” Mark 9:23 says, “Everything is possible for one who believes” (NIV).

I believe that followers of Jesus should be the most innovative and creative people on the planet because we serve a God who says all things are possible. The most narrow-minded people I know are people who don’t believe in God. Why? Because their possibilities are limited by their unbelief. When you put your faith in God, it expands your horizon. You can be much more creative and innovative.

You know what the greatest sin is? It’s not the one you’re thinking of. The greatest sin is unbelief — not trusting the God who made you. He made everything on the planet. He made everything in the universe. Everything you have, you owe to him. It all came from God. You wouldn’t have anything, not even your life if it weren’t for him. Why would you not trust him?

When you have unbelief, it limits your life.

The more you believe and trust God, the more limitless your possibilities become for your family, your career — for your life!

Conclusion: How would it make you feel if God showed you what you could have accomplished in life if you had just believed him a little bit more?
In what area or areas of your life are you limiting God by your unbelief?
What needs changing in your life?
What are you waiting for?

What do you know about Him?

Sunday powerful sermon.
Topic: When the Lord is on our side, who can be against us?
Text: Romans 8:31
Introduction: Everyone living on this earthly planet cannot please everyone, there must be one person(s) who can violet what you say creating enmity. You may give up but here is an encouragement from God...
Body 1.
Is God for us?
Romans 8:31 says that “God is for us.” Here are some scriptures that express how He is indeed for us.
“He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who has given us the Spirit as a guarantee.” (2 Corinthians 5:5)
God does not want us to fail. He has sent us the Holy Spirit to guide us and convict us.
“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to Himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.” (2 Corinthians 5:18)
Body 2.
This is because: God loves us
“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) God is for us so much that He gave His one and only Son as a sacrifice to pay the full debt of humanity’s sin. He did this to reconcile us to Himself.
“We love because He first loved us.” (1 John 4:19) He already loved us before we gave our lives over to Him. He is definitely for us.
“And this is the promise that He made to us – eternal life.” (1 John 2:25) We are assured eternal life with God.
God is for us. Read the Psalms. David wrote many that showcased God’s love for him as he was delivered from his enemies.
Body 3.
Can believers be defeated?
“Who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31) The answer to this is “no one.” Sure we can be persecuted and hurt here on earth, but eternally we will live and bask in the Glory of Christ forever. “And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.” (Matthew 10:28) We will never be defeated eternally. God is the only one who can destroy us eternally and praise His name that He is for us.
Conclusion
If you truly believe in Jesus Christ and have made Him Lord and Savior of your life, you can have confidence in Romans 8:31. God loves His children! Stay strong in the Word and prayer as you strive to live a life worthy of the calling. God bless you.
