WHEN CHILDREN NOTICE WHAT YOU PRETEND TO HIDE
I was watching this video and couldn’t help but reflect deeply. A young boy, with a playful tone, challenged his parents with a simple but piercing question: "Why are you both always chatting, but never with each other?"
It looked like a joke. But beneath the laughter was a silent cry for connection.
The truth? Many parents today are physically present in the same house, but emotionally miles apart. Emotionally close to people in their phones, friends, colleagues, even strangers, but not to their spouse or their children.
And while you may think your kids don’t notice…
They do.
Children watch more than they listen. And when they see emotional distance, it speaks louder than any sermon you’ll ever preach.
Here are a few reminders for us all:
Prioritize intentional time with your spouse, kids find security in your unity.
Put the phone down and talk to each other.
Emotional availability is louder than physical presence.
Don’t assume your children are too young to understand, they feel the silence.
What you model becomes their template for future relationships.
Your home should not feel like a hotel, where people just check in and out.
Let it be a place of warmth, presence, and connection.
Because while you're busy chatting with the world, your child is quietly wondering why you're no longer chatting with each other.
