His Holiness Pope Leo XIV has appointed Rt. Rev. Dominic Kimengich, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, as the Coadjutor Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa. The appointment was officially announced on 28 January 2026, marking a significant pastoral transition for one of Kenya’s metropolitan sees.

As Coadjutor Arcbishop, he will assist the Archbishop of Mombasa in the pastoral governance of the Archdiocese and, in accordance with canon law, holds the right of succession upon the vacancy of the metropolitan see. This appointment ensures continuity of leadership and strengthens the Church’s pastoral mission along the Kenyan Coast.

Rt. Rev. Willybard Kitogho Lagho, Bishop of Malindi, has been appointed by the Holy Father, Pope Leo, as a member of the Vatican Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue.

Bishop Lagho brings a wealth of experience in interfaith engagement to the role. The Chairperson of the Commission for Inter-religious Dialogue and Ecumenism (CIRDE) at the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) is also the Chairman of the Inter-Religious Council of Kenya (IRCK), a national body that promotes harmony among Kenya’s diverse religious communities.

His appointment to the Dicastery underscores the Vatican’s recognition of his leadership and commitment to fostering peaceful coexistence among people of different faiths, both locally and globally.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic and untimely death of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett, who was attacked and killed this morning in Tot, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, while on his pastoral Work
Eldoret Diocese Auxiliary Bishop John Kiplimo Arap Lelei has confirmed.
This senseless act of Banditry has robbed the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret of a devoted servant of God, a compassionate soul, and a pillar of hope to many.

Fr. Allois was widely known for his unwavering commitment to his faith, his tireless service to the community, and his humility.

May the soul of Rev. Fr. Allois Cheruiyot Bett rest in eternal peace.
