π SUNDAY SERVICE RECAP π
We were richly blessed by a thought-provoking message from Rev. Joshua Osiemo titled:
WHAT ARE YOU NUMBERING?
π 2 Samuel 24:1β16
David shifted his confidence from God to the strength of his military by numbering the fighting men of Israel. This account reminds us that our trust must never be in our achievements, abilities, or resources, but always in the Lord.
π‘ We Learn:
1οΈβ£ Always desire to be at the centre of God's will.
Don't be carried away by emotions or self-confidence. Resist pride, exercise humility, and seek God's will in every decision.
2οΈβ£ Don't ignore godly advice. (vv.2β4)
David ignored Joab's counsel. When a person's heart is lifted with pride, they often disregard godly wisdom. Remain teachable and value wise counsel.
3οΈβ£ Always pay attention to your heart. (v.10)
After numbering the people, David's heart convicted him.
Your heart is both an altar and a teacher. Guard it diligently.
π Proverbs 4:23; Psalm 16:7
4οΈβ£ Acknowledge your sin. (v.10b)
David confessed his sin before the Lord.
Repentance opens the door to God's mercy and restoration.
5οΈβ£ The Word of God comes to us again and again. (vv.11β13)
God lovingly continued to speak to David through the prophet Gad.
Whenever God's Word comes to usβwhether through Scripture, preaching, or godly counselβlet us respond with obedience and a surrendered heart rather than resisting His correction.
6οΈβ£ Let us fall into the hand of the Lord. (vv.14β16)
David chose to place himself in God's hands because of His great mercy.
In times of distress, uncertainty, and difficult decisions, let us choose to trust the mercy and faithfulness of God.
7οΈβ£ Always remember the Lord.
π Deuteronomy 8:10β20
Never allow success, achievements, or blessings to lift your heart in pride. Always remember that it is God who gives the power to succeed.
π Instead of numbering our achievements, victories, possessions, or abilities, let us number the faithfulness, mercy, and goodness of God. When our confidence remains in Him, He keeps our hearts humble, our steps secure, and our lives aligned with His perfect will.π
