Joshua 12 - Recounting the victories.
With Bishop Josh Amwago
Joshua 12 stands as a powerful memorial of God's faithfulness in granting victory to the people of Israel. The chapter is a detailed list of kings and kingdoms defeated during Israel’s conquest of the Promised Land.
Verses 1–6 recount the victories under Moses' leadership east of the Jordan, specifically over King Sihon of Heshbon and King Og of Bashan. These early triumphs were crucial in encouraging the Israelites before they crossed into Canaan.
Verses 7–24 list the thirty-one kings conquered by Joshua west of the Jordan. Each king mentioned serves as a testimony to the Lord’s power, leadership through Joshua, and the fulfillment of His covenant promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
This chapter may seem like a list, but it is actually a catalog of God's faithfulness and Israel’s obedience. Every name represents a battle fought and won, not by Israel’s strength alone, but by the hand of God.
Take aways ....
1. Remember Your Victories
Just as Israel recorded its victories, believers today should take time to remember and recount what God has done. Keeping a record of God’s faithfulness strengthens our trust in Him when facing new battles.
2. Honor God’s Faithfulness
The list of kings is not about military conquest alone—it honors the God who gave the victory. Our testimonies should give glory to God, not ourselves.
3. Encouragement for Future Battles
Reflecting on past victories builds faith for future challenges. If God delivered us before, He can and will do it again.
4. Celebrate Progress, Even if It’s Through Battle
Each victory came through a fight, but it marked progress. In our spiritual journey, every challenge overcome is a step toward God's purpose. Celebrate each one.
5. Obedience Leads to Victory
Israel succeeded when they followed God’s instructions. Our consistent obedience in the small and great things opens the door for spiritual success.
