Gospel of the Day: (Luke 21,34-36)

Jesus said to his disciples: "Beware that your hearts do not become drowsy from carousing and drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life, and that day catch you by surprise
like a trap. For that day will assault everyone who lives on the face of the earth.
Be vigilant at all times and pray that you have the strength to escape the tribulations that are imminent and to stand before the Son of Man."

๐Ÿ™ First Reading
ISAIAH 38:1-6, 21-22, 7-8

A reading from the Book of Isaiah

When Hezekiah was mortally ill, the prophet Isaiah, son of Amoz, came and said to him: โ€œThus says the LORD: Put your house in order, for you are about to die; you shall not recover.โ€ Then Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord:

โ€œO LORD, remember how faithfully and wholeheartedly
I conducted myself in your presence, doing what was pleasing to you!โ€ And Hezekiah wept bitterly.

Then the word of the LORD came to Isaiah: โ€œGo, tell Hezekiah: Thus says the LORD, the God of your father David:
I have heard your prayer and seen your tears. I will heal you: in three days you shall go up to the Lordโ€™s temple; I will add fifteen years to your life. I will rescue you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria; I will be a shield to this city.โ€

Isaiah then ordered a poultice of figs to be taken and applied to the boil, that he might recover. Then Hezekiah asked, โ€œWhat is the sign that I shall go up to the temple of the LORD?โ€

Isaiah answered: โ€œThis will be the sign for you from the LORD that he will do what he has promised: See, I will make the shadow cast by the sun on the stairway to the terrace of Ahaz go back the ten steps it has advanced.โ€ So the sun came back the ten steps it had advanced.

The Word of the Lord.

Responsorial Psalm
ISAIAH 38:10, 11, 12ABCD, 16

:
YOU SAVED MY LIFE, O LORD;
I SHALL NOT DIE.

Once I said,
โ€œIn the noontime of life I must depart!
To the gates of the nether world I shall be consigned
for the rest of my years.โ€

:
YOU SAVED MY LIFE, O LORD;
I SHALL NOT DIE.

I said, โ€œI shall see the LORD no more
in the land of the living.
No longer shall I behold my fellow men
among those who dwell in the world.โ€

:
YOU SAVED MY LIFE, O LORD;
I SHALL NOT DIE.

My dwelling, like a shepherdโ€™s tent,
is struck down and borne away from me;
You have folded up my life, like a weaver
who severs the last thread.

:
YOU SAVED MY LIFE, O LORD;
I SHALL NOT DIE.

Those live whom the LORD protects;
yours is the life of my spirit.
You have given me health and life.

:
YOU SAVED MY LIFE, O LORD;
I SHALL NOT DIE.

๐Ÿ™Alleluia
JOHN 10:27

R. Alleluia, alleluia.
My sheep hear my voice, says the Lord;
I know them, and they follow me.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

โœ๏ธGospel
MATTHEW 12:1-8

A reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew

Jesus was going through a field of grain on the sabbath.
His disciples were hungry and began to pick the heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, โ€œSee, your disciples are doing what is unlawful to do on the sabbath.โ€ He said to the them, โ€œHave you not read what David did when he and his companions were hungry,
how he went into the house of God and ate the bread of offering, which neither he nor his companions but only the priests could lawfully eat? Or have you not read in the law that on the sabbath the priests serving in the temple violate the sabbath and are innocent? I say to you, something greater than the temple is here. If you knew what this meant, I desire mercy, not sacrifice, you would not have condemned these innocent men. For the Son of Man is Lord of the sabbath.โ€

๐Ÿ™ ORATIO IMPERATA AGAINST COVID-19
(Revised by CBCP Jan. 28, 2022)

Merciful and compassionate Father,
we confess our sins
and we humbly come to you
to find forgiveness and life.
We come to you in our need
to seek your protection
against the COVID-19 virus
that has disturbed and claimed many lives.

We ask you now to look upon us with love
and by your healing hand,
dispel the fear of sickness and death,
restore our hope, and strengthen our faith.
We pray that you guide the people
tasked to find cures for this disease
and to stem its transmission.
Bless our efforts
to use the medicines developed
to end the pandemic in our country.

We pray for our health workers
that they may minister to the sick
with competence and compassion.
Grant them health in mind and body,
strength in their commitment,
protection from the disease.
We pray for those afflicted.
May they be restored to health.
Protect those who care for them.
Grant eternal rest to those who have died.

Give us the grace in these trying times
to work for the good of all
and to help those in need.
May our concern and compassion for each other
see us through this crisis
and lead us to conversion and holiness.
Grant all these
through our Lord Jesus Christ your Son
who lives and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God forever and ever. Amen.

We fly to Your protection,
oh Holy Mother of God.
Do not despise our petition in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers,
oh glorious and blessed Virgin. Amen.

Our Lady, health of the sick, pray for us.
St. Joseph, pray for us.
St. Raphael the Archangel, pray for us.
San Roque, pray for us.

CHRISTMAS DAY (YEAR A/B/C).

Vestment: White
Todayโ€™s Rosary: The Joyful Mystery
THE NATIVITY OF THE LORD

Mass during the Day.

Theme of the Day: AND THE WORD BECAME FLESH.

The announcer of the Word could begin the presentation of the theme from the second reading that reminds us that God manifested himself in stages to the people of Israel. He can then pass on to the Gospel and stress how the incarnation of the Word has been the highest of all revelations of God. Christ reflects the splendour and fullness of the Father. The joy that stirred Jerusalem at the return of the deportees is the image of the joy of all people who today celebrate the beginning of a new world.

Entrance Antiphon Ps2:7
The Lord said to me: You are my Son. It is I who have begotten you this day.

Or

Let us all rejoice in the Lord, for our Saviour has been born in the world. Today true peace has come down to us from heaven.

Collect
O God, who have made this most sacred night radiant with the splendor of the true light, grant, we pray, that we who have known the mysteries of his light on earth, may also delight in his gladness in heaven. Who lives and reigns with you.

FIRST READING.
โ€œA son is given to us.
A reading from the Book of Isaiah (Isaiah 9:2-7).

The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shined. You have multiplied the nation, you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil. For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called โ€œWonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.โ€ Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David, and over his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and for evermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.

The word of the Lord.

RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm96 : 1-2a.2b-3.11-12.13 (R. cf. Luke 2:11).

R/. To us is born this day a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.

O sing a new song to the Lord;
sing to the Lord, all the earth.
O sing to the Lord; bless his name. R/.

Proclaim his salvation day by day.
Tell among the nations his glory,
And his wonders among all the peoples. R/.

Let the heavens rejoice and earth be glad;
let the sea and all within it thunder praise.
Let the land and all it bears rejoice. R/.

Then will all the trees of the wood shout for joy,
at the presence of the Lord, for he comes,
he comes to judge the earth.
He will judge the world with justice;
He will govern the peoples with his truth. R/.

SECOND READING.
โ€œThe grace of God has appeared for all men. โ€
A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to Titus (Titus 2: l 1-14)

Beloved: The grace of God has appeared for the salvation of all men, training us to renounce irreligion and worldly passions, and to live sober, upright, and godly lives in this world, awaiting our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all iniquity and to purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.

The word of the Lord.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION.
Luke 2:10-11.

Alleluia.
I bring you good news of a great joy: to us is born this day a Saviour, Christ the Lord. Alleluia.

GOSPEL.
โ€œTo us is born this day a Saviour.โ€
A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke ( Luke 2:1-14).

In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be enrolled. This was the first enrollment, when Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be enrolled, each to his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be enrolled with Mary his betrothed, who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to be delivered. And she gave birth to her first-born son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn. And in that region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with fear. And the angel said to them โ€œBe not afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.โ€ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, โ€œGlory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom he is pleased!โ€
