Epaphroditus
e) A soldier
Phillipians 2:25-26
Yet I considered it necessary to send to you Epaphroditus, my brother, fellow worker, and fellow soldier, but your messenger and the one who ministered to my need;since he was longing for you all, and was distressed because you had heard that he was sick.
The Roman Empire used the army as its key symbol, this explains why the apostle severally used the imagery of a soldier. Paul could see shared qualities between the Roman soldiers and the soldiers of Christ.
Soldiers demonstrate a high level of loyalty. It is required of soldiers to remain true to their master and their calling. Wavering stands do alot of damage to the kingdom and to the ministry.
Soldiers are also committed to a disciplined life! The apostle mentioned severally in his letters how he was committed to a way of life that ensured he would both keep the faith and serve the kingdom.
Courage and dedication are also important qualities of a soldier. For Paul to refer to Epaphroditus as a fellow soldier,he meant one who lived a disciplined life of faith. A man who like him could leave the comforts they knew for the sake of Christ. They both bore witness of Christ while at the same time made sure they never missed the mark. We are called to a disciplined life of faith.
Let the army arise.
