Family, friends, teachers, clergy, and members of St. Luke’s Cathedral gathered at Ekumira Village to lay Lay Reader Dinah Ongayo Okune to rest and celebrate her life well lived.

Dinah was remembered as a dedicated teacher and faithful servant of God, having served diligently as a Lay Reader at St. Luke’s Cathedral.

The service was presided over by **The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, **who preached from 2 Corinthians 5:1–10, emphasizing the brevity of life and the eternity of God. The congregation was reminded to live faithfully in this temporary and perishable life while looking forward to the eternal, immortal, and imperishable life with God.

Bishop Okeno also challenged political leaders to tone down political rhetoric, exercise tolerance, and uphold respect for one another, urging them to promote peace, unity, and responsible leadership in society.

The Rt. Rev. Rose Okeno, accompanied by clergy from the ACK Diocese of Butere, joined fellow bishops, clergy and church leaders at the Clergy and Bishops Conference held at Kabarak from 24th to 28th August 2026. The conference brought together approximately 1,500 delegates from across the Anglican Churches of Kenya.

Held under the theme, “Nurturing the Future Generations for a Prosperous Kenya”, drawn from Deuteronomy 6:2–4, the conference provided an important platform for spiritual renewal, fellowship, learning and reflection on the role of the Church in shaping future generations.

Bishop Okeno was privileged to preach during the opening ceremony and Holy Communion service, where she spoke on the theme “Carefully Listening and Obeying God.” She challenged the Church to rediscover the discipline of listening to God before responding or taking action.

She noted that many people have become quick to speak without first praying and discerning God's will. She encouraged believers to listen deeply and consistently until God's voice becomes the compass of their lives, emphasizing that true obedience begins with attentive listening to God.

The conference continues to provide an opportunity for bishops and clergy to strengthen fellowship, share experiences and reflect on their calling to nurture the next generation. For Bishop Okeno and the clergy from the Diocese of Butere, the gathering is a valuable moment of spiritual enrichment and renewed commitment to faithful service.

The ACT Diocese of Mara joyfully celebrated 41 years since its inception, marking a significant milestone of God’s faithfulness and the continued growth of the Church in the Diocese.

The anniversary celebration brought together congregants from across the Diocese of Mara, clergy from the ACK Diocese of Butere, and Bishops from various dioceses in Tanzania. The service was presided over by the Rt. Rev. Dr. George Meshak Okoth, alongside the visiting Bishops, in a colorful celebration of worship, fellowship and thanksgiving.

A key highlight of the celebration was the making of deacons, collating of Canons, and ordination of priests, signifying the Diocese’s commitment to strengthening ministry and raising leaders to serve God and His people.

In her message, Bishop Okeno reflected on the anniversary theme, “Ebenezer: Bwana ametusaidia”—“Thus far the Lord has helped us.” Drawing from the biblical account of 1 Samuel 7, she encouraged the Church to remember God’s faithfulness throughout its journey and to remain grateful for His guidance, provision and protection. A faithful church is one that dwells in repentance and prayer.

The 41st anniversary therefore served not only as a celebration of the Diocese’s history, but also as a reminder of the many ways God has worked through His people. As the ACT Diocese of Mara looks to the future, the celebration renewed its commitment to faithful service, unity, mission and continued proclamation of the Gospel.

Indeed, Ebenezer—thus far, the Lord has helped us.

“SALA na KAZI, KAZI na SALA” remains a powerful slogan for the ACT Diocese of Mara. The Diocese has come a long way through the dedication of its founding bishops and leaders who laid a strong foundation for growth and ministry.

Drawing from 1 Samuel 7, the message emphasized the importance of remembering God’s faithfulness. Ebenezer reminds us that “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” We are called to have hearts of thanksgiving, recognizing how God has carried us through different seasons and given us victory.

The message also emphasized that division hinders development, while unity and teamwork strengthen the Church. God has power and authority over our lives, and His help has no limits.

As we celebrate, let us remember God’s goodness, give thanks for the past, trust Him in the present, and commit the future to His hands. Ebenezer—Hata sasa Bwana ametusaidia.
