Here we have five men of faith, the man who lay crippled on the cot and the four men who carried him to Jesus. Unable to reach Jesus due to the great crowds that had come to hear him, they opened up the roof and lowered him down. They knew Jesus had the power to heal their friend and would stop at nothing if they could only get him to Him.

Friday evening devotion:
God is good and that will never change. It is who He is and it is who He will always be. Time and time again we are reminded in the Bible, God's Word, that his mercy is everlasting - it will never expire. It will never forsake us. God's mercy is there for us every single day. It is because of God's mercy, we have the confidence in Him that we have. God's word will always reign supreme for an eternity to come. Every day we are shown more and more of the depths of God's love, wisdom and mercy.

When it is said that we, Christians, are temporary residents on this earth, it is because we are waiting for a greater glory to come – the return of Jesus Christ. Because of the heavenly assurance we have, we shouldn't fear this day. We should rejoice because Christ is coming for all of us, ushering in the glory spoken of in the Epistles. On that day, we will be reunited with fellow believers who have passed on; and we will take on our immortal bodies.

Jesus came to tell us about God, the Father, and who he really is. There were a lot of misconceptions about God before Jesus came – and even while he still walked the earth. Many saw God as an angry, God who was set on punishing his people. Jesus came to show us who God really is – a loving Father who was set on saving his children from their sinful ways and setting them free from the enemy's oppression. The work has been passed on to us now, God's children, to continue preaching on the love of the Father, which manifested in his son, Jesus Christ.

It's very easy to become discouraged by the things we see in this world. But you, dear Christian, should not be discouraged because God is always with you. Continue to find solace in God's presence, trust in Him, and know that the wicked will have their day. In the meanwhile, stay fixed on God for He is good and his faithfulness if forever.

A Kingdom that cannot be moved, cannot ever be shaken or pass away, that is, the everlasting Kingdom of God, is coming. And the Church of Christ will reign with Him in that Kingdom. This ought to cause us to seek God's grace so we can begin already to serve him, seeing we shall serve him in that Kingdom forever.

Though David was a man after God's own heart and trusted in Him, yet, God allowed other men to sometimes persecute him. Yet, David was confident that in the end God would deliver him from all of his persecutors. In like manner, God may allow others to persecute believers, but we should not fear those who at most can kill the body but do no more but fear God in whose hands are both our bodies and our souls.

All of the earth belongs to God its Creator, and all of the bounty it contains also belongs to him. We can enjoy earthly blessings as believers, knowing they fall from the hand of God to us. While spiritual blessings are of greater value, God gives us earthly blessings to enjoy as well.

The day is coming when the Messiah will "be great to the ends of the earth. " He will reign on the earth and take all the kingdoms of this world as his own possession. He will establish justice and rule in might. Today, there is much injustice in the world, and governments are often corrupt. In that day, however, we will see the perfect righteous rule of Jesus Christ.

Paul so lived before the Philippian believers and before all men as to be an example of godliness. But there were others all around and even most likely whom the Philippians knew of, who walked not so. Paul encourages them to follow his good example of following Jesus and to avoid the influence of all bad examples.

Here Solomon tells us the same thing Paul teaches in Romans 3:23, "all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." Every man is born unjust and naturally sins and does not do what is truly good in the sight of God. Man's purpose in life is to fulfill his duty to "fear God and keep His commandments" (Ecclesiastes 12:13), but this he does not naturally do.
